Yes you read it correctly!! Dolly did a version of Stairway and nailed it!! Heart does the best version of it but I promise you Dolly Parton scored a high 2nd place with this version
The accompanying article eludes to her melting Down Into Swampy Bluegrass Goodness but to me its much more Celtic than bluegrass

Oh dear, different take on a classic number right enough. For me it is not in the same league as Led Zeps original, don’t think I have heard Hearts version though I will now track it down and have a listen.. I am now wondering just how many have done a version of this song, I know Rolf Harris did an Australian type version using a wobble board and a didgeridoo

Wasn’t sure if this would still be on you tube seeing as Rolf is now in prison, it is and it’s still a lot of fun to listen to.
Btw, I had heard the heart version before.i watched that concert to “Led Zeplin” on tv here a few years back..anyway Rolf Harris version.

If I recall right, on the soundtrack to the early 1990’s movie “Singles” was a Heart cover of “The Battle of Evermore”, which was fantastic. I’ll have to look up the Heart version of Stairway…

The version that Heart did that was so impressive was a tribute to Led Zepplin at the Kennedy Center that actually brought a tear to Robert Plant’s eye. Ann Wilson is one of the very few voices that can do justice to that song. Unfortunately all of the videos of that performances On You Tube either have been butchered by those that posted it or the sound was blocked out. Took some digging but click on this link
I like versions of songs that are outside of the box like what Dolly Parton did with this song. I am so sick of all of the SRV wannabes that copied copied copied – God bless them that they can do that but lets have some originality please!! I believe in paying homage to the generation before us but to me, there has to be a limit.
Red House is another that so many have copied. Great song that Jimi provided us one of the greatest blues rock tunes of all times but I was so thrilled to hear Frank Marino’s version that was totally different

I can understand having a year of pride and joy when someone does a great rendition of a song written by yourself and as you say they were a big influence on many many musicians of then and now, Greta van Fleet are now doing their take on being Led Zepplin and a great job they are doing of it too, “imitation is the greatest form of flattery” I think is how the saying goes.
I have nothing against doing others songs/creations and the more it happens the better imho, Heart did a fantastic arrangement but to me it is still not on par with the original even though it stands proud on its own two feet...Billy..

Considering how many folks have covered this song and how much it (and Zeppelin in general) has influenced millions of musicians around the world since its original release, it is very cool seeing Plant & Page being so moved with emotion while watching this performance…

In there early days, Heart was nicknamed “Little Zeppelin” because they covered so many of Zep’s tunes and – my opinion here – Ann Wilson has the voice to be convincing. To me, Ann is the best female voice in rock & roll, bar none. She’s been amazing from day one and can still belt it out

Yeah, there were some distinct Plant inflections in her voice on more than one occasion in Stairway… She does have a great voice, for sure- although Amy Lee from Evanescence gives her a run for the money IMHO.
