Happy new year everyone ! I hope you are doing well and had a good holiday period. 🙂
A new blues composition for the december challenge. The backing track is from Quist’s youtube challenge, in the key of A.
It’s my longest composition so far, 36 bars, it took me a bunch of hours to write. But, it was a good exercice as I tried to blend the new vocabulary that I learned in the AM lessons to my other vocabulary.
I don’t know if I’ll have time to participate in the next challenges as I’m starting 2026 with a acoustic fingerstyle solo blues learning project so that will take much of my practice time. 🙁

Your efforts paid off Mathieu. That was really great.

Nice Mathieu! Great blues playing, melodic and good energy. You used the full fretboard, and really nailed those turnarounds.

Well constructed melodic arrangement Matthieu. Lot of thought went into it, covering the fretboard. So enjoyable to listen to … I had to listen twice. All the best for your guitar course project.

If you wrote that out and composed exactly what you played in advance, that is really impressive. It explains how everything was delivered with such intension and confidence. Hat’s off to you with your spectacular results. That’s a special skill right there.
This is also an example of what I would consider a well mixed balance between the backing track and your guitar track. I liked feeling the drive of the bass player and the whole thing sounded great in the final mix.
Go slow and practice correct technique, and your abilities will dramatically improve.

First off, the fact that you actually write a piece and know how many bars long it is speaks to your deliberate and intentional style. How you can use that skill to capture your creative impulse is doubly impressive. Plus the piece rocked.

Oh, I loved the sound of those harmonies! That (sophisticated) style of blues playing made me think of Robben Ford, such very articulate and well thought out composition!

I take my hat off to you for so diligently using Brian’s licks to compose your own piece. I should be trying that myself but it’s much harder than it seems.

That was one well thought out and brilliantly executed solo, Mathieu. Felt it had a beginning a middle and an end as all good stories do. Well done 👏
