Cory is not an online guitar teacher, but he is perhaps the greatest funk guitar player today. And when he suggests how we can improve our timing, we should probably listen:

Good post Steve.
The melody of the notes is what expresses the art of music . 🙂 6stringerPete
It really is all about ”melody”. The melody comes from a language from our heart. Our heart is the muscle in music harmony. The melody is the sweetness that it pumps into our musical thoughts on the fretboard. 🙂 6 stringer Pete

Exact timing is the problem I’m working on intensively right now. Counting out the note values is no problem for me, but my shortcoming is that more or less only the “head” is involved, not the “gut”. In addition, I usually stay in the “comfort zone” when it comes to tempo. The video is a good example of how to improve your physical sense of rhythm, and I’m going to include it in my training program.

I listened to a few Dirty Loops tracks and as long as the drummer was smacking that snare I was in time. The difficult part for me came when he did a long crazy fill and the bass went nuts with him. That’s when I had to really concentrate on keeping the beat going in my head. Great band BTW.
Nice one Steve!
