All about rhythm this month. Not as easy as Steve Cropper makes it sound.
The brief this month was “less is more” so I used a very spare backing track from EP 384 – an A note and later an F note in the bass so can’t get much lesserer than that!
Then I tried to layer some simple rhythm parts outlining a progression of
Dm7 Dm7 Am7 G over the A note and then
F G Dm7 Dm7
F Em7 Dm7 Dm7
over the F note.Be kind to yourself (especially when you're trying to play this instrument!)

Hey Cloughie, you know it’s a good rhythm track when you want to pull out your guitar and play along. I had some fun noodling over your playing. Nice way to make such a sparse track sound interesting.

Hey Cloughie,
Great submission.
Really nice lead lines and a good choice of chord progression.
I especially enjoyed your sparse rhythm parts – they seemed to just flow effortlessly over the backing track.
Well done.
Liam.

Yeah! Great Brian, especially loved the double stop vamping/comping! Great to see and hear the butterscotch blonde Tele out. Keep on pickin’ and all the best! 🥸🎸🥸

Liked you original composition and your chords progression, Brian! You layered very well your rhythm section, and then played some very original double stops leads over it. Very well done, an interesting composition enjoyable to listen to!

Really nice work Brian, you added plenty of interest to that backing track. It became like a hypnotic backdrop to your rhythm and lead lines. Liked how you worked that progression with the rhythm stabs over the top of the single bass notes.

It just built into a munch more substantial piece than it started out. Very clever.

Cloughie, that was really creative the way you build up throughout the chord progression. Nice style with slides and double stops…kind of a jazzy feel. Cheers. Pap

There was a lot more going on here than meets the ear. For a piece with such hypnotic potential, it has a nice amount of movement and I especially liked the hybrid picked parts walking up the neck. Smart playing!

Good composition Brian – you transformed the basic backing track into an enjoyable, complex piece of music by the addition of your imaginative lead and rhythm parts.

A very distinctive and avant garde sound you created Brian. Your lead lines captured great ideas that fit so well.

Very interesting and creative Brian! You showed how creative one can be with such few notes, congrats!
