Hi All,
Following the July challenge.
Is there a location on the forum where all of Brian’s backing tracks are saved?Dave R

Hi David,
The only place where you will find Brian’s backing tracks is within each individual lesson (where backing track is used), not on the forum.

And don’t forget Youtube, which is an awesome source of free jamtracks. Most of us have figured out how to download them from Youtube by now. I’ve used a variety of apps to download them, mostly through Firefox which uses free “add-ons” you install, such as Video DownloadHelper, etc. Usually they work for a while, then Youtube figures out how to prevent them from working. However, it’s totally legal to record whatever you’re seeing (or hearing) on your computer. So now I use one of the little screen shot apps called “iScreen Shoter”. I start recording with iScreen Shoter, then start the video and save it when done. Easy peazy.

Oh right, I had no idea you could do that. That’s excellent! Thanks very much for letting me know.

Hi Steve, I know you’re a Mac user. Do you know if iScreenShoter picks up from the sound card on a Mac?
I’ve used Audacity for this on windows to do that but on a Mac I can only steer it to use the microphone to record from the speakers (which is often ok for my purposes as long as I keep quiet 😅)
Picking up
From the sound card would be much better -

Yes, iScreen Shoter captures the video and audio incoming stream directly from the motherboard, no mic involved. Apparently it only works on Macs. Note that there is also a built-in app included in all Macs called “Screenshot”. It’s almost identical to iScreen Shoter, except that it crashes so much it’s not useful at all, whereas iScreen Shoter works perfectly all the time.
However, there are lots of similar apps for PCs. Just Google “screen recording apps for PC” and you can spend an entire day reviewing them to see which is best. A lot of them have stupid needless features like “upload to TikTok”.
Note that the difference between these apps and the video download plug-ins (add-ons) in Firefox, is that the screen shot apps require you to play the video (or audio) and they record while it’s playing. The video download apps attempt to access the Youtube files and directly download them and convert them to MP4 or MP3 files. Much faster, less reliable.

Many thanks Steve, iScreen Shoter looks to be just what I need 👍
I’m not bothered by the slower download time as I don’t download much. -

Andy,
I use an app called Piezo for audio capture on the Mac. I bought it several years ago (about $30 or so) and they’ve supplied multiple free upgrades since then, including for every major macOS release.
It’s very simple and clean to use. I use it all the time to capture audio from YouTube or Apple Music. Recommended if you’re going to be doing a good amount of capture.
I’ve always been scared of the various YouTube downloaders, they all seem so sketchy. And they don’t let me capture from Apple Music.

Many thanks Richard, I’ll take a look as I’ve not had much joy with iScreenShoter which seemed to need an extra plug in and so far has only recorded videos but no sound. Something which records just sound would be much better.
I don’t record much and I’ve figured out I can loop the sound from the Mac into an mp3 port on my Blackstar Amp and then record it back using the Amps XLR output into a Scarlet Interface and Audacity. A bit “round the houses” but works ok and the connections are usually to hand.

If you want to download from YouTube I use 4k Video Downloader (you can google search it). Simply copy the link from YT and paste it in 4k. You decide whether you want to download audio/video or just audio. It works great for me.

Hello, how I could download Premium member videos for offline viewing? Thanks

Premium member videos are not downloadable…you would need to use one of the screen recorder apps mentioned above.

The QuickTime Player that is installed with Mac OS will record video and audio from screen (real-time). Just start QuickTime and select New Movie Recording from menu. Then select area of screen you want to record. Stop recording when completed.
It's all about the journey, not the destination.
