Very late to the game as we were on a 2 week vacation break (so nice to leave the house for 2 weeks during the pandemic😀) and only back yesterday late afternoon. Anyway here’s my submission. A couple of thoughts:
– I need a foot pedal and a new amp as I was looking for a different sound during the 2nd time. The only way I record now is via a Boss Katana Air. You cannot connect a foot pedal. I just recorded myself twice but much easier to have a foot pedal (and less background noise😀)
– In the first round I was looking for clear 50s sound or some dreamy high compression sound you can hear in some Lucinda Williams records. I realize I need to invest in understanding pedals and sounds and how to use them. Brian: maybe do a lesson on this?
– 2nd round I was looking for overdrive.
– in general I found this one difficult in terms of creativity and telling a story. Thanks, Andre

nice double stop intro, nice contrast with 2nd verse lead; i find there’s 2 learning curves, the music, and then the technology, and there’s only so much time available so it can be a challenge, and expensive. My solution was to buy a modeller with all the tones and effects built in, plus hundreds of presets that i can tweak to preference. Once it’s up and running there’s no more purchases required. Any, i enjoyed your performance, and good luck with your progress. ps, i like the double screen, i’m still working on that tech challenge.

Andre,
I thought everything you played was great. I think the tone might have missed the mark in the second half but I don’t know much about the Katana and the available overdrive options. Chasing tone is definitely a struggle that we all face. I often feel I fall short of the tones I covet on You Tube. I think these guys are recording the finest amps at 100+ decibels, maybe using more than 1 expensive microphone and the best software emulation available. It’s definitely a challenge and a steep learning curve but part of the journey.

Great, first round is simply awesome, I like very much the tone of the solo,

Hey André, excellent run of double stops in the first round, prefer the crisp tone of the first half. Well done.

Well played and enjoyed the innovation of the 2nd round. I have almost given up on the tone chase as it was taking up too much time that I’d rather be playing. But I settled on a few effects but mostly rely on pushing the amps for distortion and reverb and add a little delay.
If you are interested look up That Pedal Show on youtube. These guys have reviewed everything, are great players so they give you context but beware of time as their videos are usually 55 minutes or more. Hence my time issue. -

I like this a lot. Dueling screens. I very much appreciated the tones, changes and edges. Your guitar style rocks!

That was a superb composition and performance, Andre. Harmonized double stop melody are not easy to come by, but yours was fantastic. You hear so many good things about Katana. It sounded good to me. Hide

Well played, I particularly enjoyed the double stop intro but not so keen on the tone during the second pass.

How to mix it up Andre, note selection was spot on covering the chords, well done…

Very creative, indeed, Andre! I enjoyed watching and listening to you and your “evil” twin, I think it was a great idea with the contrasting tones and vibes. The solo itself was superb and suited the track perfectly, great to watch and listen to.

Andre, for putting something together in short order, that sure did sound fabulous. Nice work. Pap

That was great, Andre. I really liked the sound, mood and your empathetic playing. Thumbs up!
Play guitar just like you live; don't get bogged down in theory, it's just a tool without feeling.

Hey Andre – I like it! I’m also a massive Lucinda Williams fan & I think you got some of those dreamy but dark tones here. I’m also impressed you managed a smile while playing – the best I can do is a demented grimace. I suspect your issue with the second tone was in the recording rather than the tone itself. I don’t know much about the Katana Air but I do have a Katana Amp – it’s really good and not expensive – I sold a couple of other amps when I got it as it just made them redundant (& one of those was the Fender Blues Jnr). It’s by Boss of course & basically contains a lot of the pedal circuitry that you’d find in their stomp boxes. My other almost ‘perfect’ solution was to pick up a Line 6 Helix – as many tones & adjustments as you can wish for in a lifetime. It’s fantastic pro-quality but at a price (that’s the down side). With this solution – you don’t need an amp (for studio work) – you can just take it direct to your interface (or to an amp if you chose). For a few years I went down the pedal board route but now find these two options far better for me. Cheers.

Yep I enjoyed both parts, but prob the first one gets the nod , you captured that 50s tone perfectly, as regarding tone , pedals , etc
I prefer a simple amp and pedals that way you learn more about how to achieve different tones , i feel the modelling amps just go overkill with the presets , but that’s just me everyone is different , have fun ,tone searching . Well played .Martin

I thought it was great nice to have 2 parts enjoyed both
If your struggling with O/D try a more unsubtle approach I see the Katana has models so give the fuzz section into an slightly overdriven amp a go with a touch of delay.
I get the best results from a Fender twin setting on my amp emulator pedal and then using a Big Muff type fuzz, one that works really well at lower volumes is a Rat style o/d when turned up you get a nice fuzz sound. Its all experimentation to get something that suits

This was great Andre, I like that you gave two very different styles over the same jam track. And I thought you did a really good job of telling a story. I will do a future lesson on how to get the sound that you’re looking for

Great idea Andre – the split screen and themes. Loved it. And I agree about a pedal lesson. Check out Griff Hamlin an Blues Guitar Unleashed. He does a fantastic lesson on pedals. Great job on your submission. Bob
