Was wondering if anyone here uses audacity to record with at home? I cant seem to figure out how to remove the lag/latency that i get between the time i pick my guitar and when i hear it through the speaker. Its quite frustrating. Anyway, if anyone has experience with audacity or can help, let me know. Thanks…scott.

Hi Scotty,
I am sorry you are running into recording issues. That is a total bummer when all you want to do is record not troubleshoot technological issues.
I do not know much about Audacity but I found a couple of articles online that talks about the signal path being the problem that causes latency. So the path from your guitar to the interface to the computer (that bounces from processor to sound card). They say increasing your buffer size can help. I have no idea how to do that in Audacity and I have never had to do it in Garageband to date.
I found the following that may help:
http://tweakheadz.com/latency/ (See bottom of post on 5 sources of Latency and how to fix them)
http://manual.audacityteam.org/o/man/latency_test.html
http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/aug99/articles/zerolatency.htmYou might try download Reaper. It is another DAW with a 60 day free trial. Then you can rule out if it is Audacity. http://www.reaper.fm/download.php
Keep us posted!

If you have “acoustic echo cancellation ” set on Realtek (sound system on most computers), go to “sound mode” and get out of it, then go to “noise suppression”, use that mode. You’ll find this on the Microphone layout of Realtek.
Hope this helps. If not, let me know. I had the problem also years ago, I think I solved it by using the above. But try it. Also, do you have the latest Audacity dl. I’m using 2.0.6
I keep the Project Rate (Hz) at 44100
The melody of the notes is what expresses the art of music . 🙂 6stringerPete
It really is all about ”melody”. The melody comes from a language from our heart. Our heart is the muscle in music harmony. The melody is the sweetness that it pumps into our musical thoughts on the fretboard. 🙂 6 stringer Pete
