Hi folks , my submission for this month , I used the backing track from EP 318 JJ cale style .
and set a limitation of minor pentatonic pattern one with two added Dorian notes and the blue note , really enjoyed this one, I think setting that limitation brings out more and makes you play a little differently.
Look forward to listening to everyone’s posts , I’m away travelling this weekend so will catch up at some point .
Cheers Martin . -

Hey Martin, you mean just playing the minor pentatonic plus two notes can sound so good?! Haha, just kidding. Excellent playing there. Also, I entirely agree with you on the subject of limitations. I find that those limitations are particularly helpful when you want to learn something new and really concentrate on that specific skill or concept. I will use it in the future, for sure.

I like very much this lesson, I also showcased way back, and I love your own original composition over the track, really very nice, melodic and smoothly played on the first frets, showing that limitations can produce original and very nice results!

Great picking as usual Martin – hybrid picking was very tasteful and effective. A good composition played with style and a great tone.

Far out Martin. Really cool. Smooth picking and the tone is to die for.
You have great command of the fingerboard and say a lot in a small area of the guitar.John

This sounds like you enjoyed it. And when you enjoy it, we enjoy it, too.
It definitely had the JJ vibe, and maybe a little Dire Straits, too.
You have a really great touch on the instrument, with lots of character and voice, great tone. Me Likey. -

Ep318 is an iconic backing track, you really showed how one pattern + 3 notes can really keep the JJ vibe without being compromised. This limitation broke all the rules – it really sounded a lot more expansive. Top Notch Martin.

I have also done a challenge with this backing track before. So I was very familiar with listening to you. But your musical ideas have inspired me again and again. Isn’t it nice to experience something familiar in a new way. Thank you for that, Martin.
Take the chance to meet your AM friends on Zoom.
The next Meetup will take place on May 31There will be a detailed announcement here in the forum in the next days..
I look forward to meet you.

Superb composition Martin! One wouldn’t think you were limiting yourself, it’s so rich and expressive, congrats!
If I wasn't making mistakes I wouldn't be the kind of player I want to be. Perfection is dangerous.
It's all about taking risks, sometimes you get to some place, sometimes you get to a different place. (Brian May) -

Love the JJ Cale vibe of this track, great choice on that one, Martin! Your soloing sounded very melodic and groovy, and you sure got creative with finding the melodic within one area. No wonder you wear the British Studios Grove t-shirt with pride, as you totally should! 😉

As soon as I saw “JJ Cale” and Dorian in your description I knew this was going to be good and you nailed it. Plenty of melody and plenty of space for it to resonate. Cracking!!
