Hello AM friends,
For this challenge I went for a solo on one string (High E string) EP579
Pretty weird at first but not so bad.
You can call me “Brushy one string” for those who knows him.Done on my trusty Les Paul.
Hope you like it, enjoy!

André that was excellent!
I did something similar for this challenge. At first, it felt strange. But afterwards, you know the scale (whichever one you chose) on that string inside and out. Plus, you find entirely new embellishments when playing on just one string.

Andre Santana! Sounds really good Andre and obviously not a limitation for you. Maybe next time you could do half a string? 😅
Love the tremolo picking.

Sounds great, Andre. You got a lot of mileage out of that one string. Marvelous picking technique and string bending.

Wow André, mon ami, it’s amazing what a beautiful melody you pulled out with only one string! Yes, also to me it sounds a lot like a Santana’s style, which is of course a very good thing! Loved especially those tremolo pickings but in general a great rendition full of expressiveness, and your LP sounds great!

Hi Andre, wonderful melodic single-string playing. I did the same, but with the B string. I think you pulled out about as much as that one string can offer. Really enjoyed it!

Astonishing performance Andre, terrific composition and playing. The tremelo picking really enhanced it – you used it sparingly to great effect.

So it’s pretty obvious to me now that if someone gave you a tin can and a stalk of celery, you would find a way to make great music from them.
I’m a little bit gob-smacked that you could do this all on one string. If I wasn’t watching you do it, I wouldn’t believe it possible.

I was hoping someone would do one string, but thought nobody will ’cause it is too limiting. You proved me wrong. Gosh, you took this lesson and put it into turbo, amazing. A lot can be learnt from players like yourself that even with one ingredient, you turn it into a banquet. I need a lesson sheet on this one.

It’s really amazing what a good guitarist can do with a solo on one string. Great job, André . and the Les Paul sounds simply phenomenal – thank you.

Wow that was a real eye and ear opener for me! Can’t believe you did all that on high E with so much variety! You are amazing!

That’s a one string wonder, Andre! It’s amazing how full you made this sound!! Great performance.

Awesome, Andre.
Can’t make this sound so good without all your skills of vibrato, bends, slides, rakes, hammer-ons and pull-offs and legato. I thought the only thing missing was tremolo picking and at 1:45, there it was. Then I thought, hey, no pre-bends or EVH tapping! Next time, buddy.😉

Well, I have to say, I’ve never heard anyone get that much out of one string. You are a true musical genious, Andre, an endless fountain of clever motifs and techniques. Brian should make a lesson out of this.

André Santana, this was marvelous! A real showcase of all the possibilities of playing only one string, your musical creativity knows no limits! I especially appreciated your playing here because this lesson was my initial idea for the challenge. I learned the percussive rhythm and started learning Brian’s one string solo and I am still working on it, it’s really hard for me to lock in on his timing. I really like how you used the hammer-on/slide/pull-offs idea from that very lesson, I also borrowed it for my composition 😉

I already knew your expressivity is great André, but you can be so expressive with just one string too, really impressive!!!
If I wasn't making mistakes I wouldn't be the kind of player I want to be. Perfection is dangerous.
It's all about taking risks, sometimes you get to some place, sometimes you get to a different place. (Brian May) -

You can also do magic on one string, Andre. While I’m listening to you, I don’t notice any limitation. Perfect quality, as always. You show how wonderfully you can play the guitar, even on just one string.
Take the chance to meet your AM friends on Zoom.
The next Meetup will take place on May 31There will be a detailed announcement here in the forum in the next days..
I look forward to meet you.

Hi André, that was awesome! I hear the Santana vibe like others have mentioned. Not sure that I’ve ever heard anything as good as this played on one string! Great job!

Awesome, André. That sounded like much more than just one string. Fantastic phrasing on that one string! 👍🏽👍🏽

I contemplated trying to do the single string thing for a while and my experiments with it have only made me even more in awe of your performance here. Mind blowing good. Such flow and fluidity to the melody. Really liked that little repeated note you used at the start of many of the licks, gave it a Santanaish vibe.
