When I first heard the challenge I immediately thought of EP 495, “Limitation can set you free.” A favorite lesson of mine, which I dusted off and reworked for this challenge. My main limitation was keeping it in the Em shape of the Am natural minor scale.
Thanks for listening! 🙏

Very nice rendition, Alan, you was able to dish out a lot of different and enjoyable musical ideas (melodically and rhythmically) using only this one position on the fret!

What a wonderful phrasing is fantastic and the sound anyway. Very cool , laid back soloing.
Thank you very much.

Great submission, Alan. I like everything about it. The groove, the rhythm, the phrasing and the drama!

Nicely played Alan…you got a lot of mileage out of “staying inside the box”. Very melodic and excellent note choices that outlined the changes. Great timing and phrasing and very musical.

Good response to the challenge, Alan. Well phrased and good picking made for an interesting piece, with just the right amount of growl.

You got a lot of great mileage out of very limited geography on the fret board. I liked that clipped, semi-muted voicing, too. Those two descending minor chords were very cool, too.

That’s a cool groove, Alan. Like the lesson says, “limitation can set you free”! Great use of those concepts.

Great rendition Alan. A fine demonstration that there’s need to fly all over the fretboard to find inspiration, a great vide and sweet sounds.

That’s perfect, Alan! I love this kind of jams and enjoyed listening to your playing a lot! There is so much music to be found in one area, and exploring it must have been fun. Great tone, as well!

Great idea Alan, and you have indeed mastered 1st position minor pentatonic scale. Seems like you were really in The Zone playing that.

Hi Alan, that was really interesting and melodic to listen to. You were able to do A LOT with that single position and I love the tone you dialed in for the guitar.

Nice rendition Alan , I love this type of limitation you just lock in and go with the moment, as you so well demonstrated , there’s a lot of music in that position.
Great tone as well .Martin

EP 495 was also my first thought for this challenge, Alan. But I decided on something else. So I’m doubly thrilled that you decided to do it, but mainly because I like your guitar playing so much. It’s always a pleasure to listen to.

Thanks for reminding me of this EP Alan, you played it so well, smoothly and soulfully! And nice improvisation too, well done!
