I wrote this song a little while back. A family friend found this poem among her late mother belonging. As I was listening to her sharing / reading this poem, I felt that I could “hear” an outline of a song. I asked her for a copy and worked on it and came up with this song. I found a lot of encouragement from these words and I hope you do to. The full lyrics is at the Youtube site.
And as per the challenge’s request, practically no one has ever heard thing song before 🙂 (I finish recording this just yesterday!)

Very nicely composed piece Reuben. You are a very good multi-instrumentalist, and all the parts fit together so well and added to the overall feel of the song. You must have spent a lot of time producing this song, and your efforts were very worthwhile. Very beautiful lyrics, along with beautiful playing. Your friends Mother would be very proud that her words are living on through your music.

Okay, I need to sort first. Or I ask which instrument you can’t play. It doesn’t matter, you’re already a musical all-rounder and then you sing with a cool voice. Really impressively good. Chapeau.
Play guitar just like you live; don't get bogged down in theory, it's just a tool without feeling.

I loved it – your best ever post! What a great way to come up for an idea for a song! Your chords and melody fit perfectly with the lyrics. I suspect your friend was really impressed also. Nice arrangement, well recorded. And I’m seeing more and more AM members who are multi-instrumentalists, which I think is awesome.

Impressive work Rueben, you are multi-talented. The production was the real deal and could easily be snapped up by a talent scout for the main stream. And to know the touching story behind it, the butterfly effect of those written words that has already been shared thus far, further than she would ever know.

This was great. What programs did you use to record all the different tracks? Keep them coming. This is really good. also some nice solo’s there & great drumming (good feel)!

Hi Andre, I used Zoom H4N Pro to record the tracks. I basically started with just a guitar and vocal with its built-in mics as the rough “base”, then added drum, bass, piano. Then I re-recorded the guitar rhythm and vocal (replacing the first take), before adding the acoustic and electric lead. I then dumped the tracks to Audacity on the computer and adjusted the levels there.

Wow, you’re a man of many talents, Reuben! Of the guitar and vocal skills I was already aware but also piano and drums?? Dang, I’m starting to feel like a total misfit! Beautiful song and arrangement, I can’t imagine the work that went into this epic. And what a lovely way to commemorate someone’s late Mom’s lyrics by turning them into a song, you should be proud. I love the piano part at the beginning!

Reuben, I knew this was going to be good because all of your submissions impress me. However, this blew me away! You are so talented and focused. You turned this poem into something really special and uplifting. Your family friend’s mother would have wrote more if she knew you were going to put a production together like this one. what talent! the melody settles in immediately and very quickly you want to hum it. And also what an arrangement, it’s really a very well constructed and arranged song with a melancholic melody that goes perfectly with the lyrics. And what a talented multi-instrumentalist!
