I happened to see a post on Facebook from Debra’s daughters that Debra had passed away last year

No COD or actual date was given that she’d passed

For those who remember her, Debra was very active on AM for quite a while and then it seemed that her participation ended abruptly

        From Facebook:

Hello friends, Debra’s daughters Carla Smith and Kitra Smith here. For those who don’t yet know, our sweet mother Debra Latimer passed away last year.
For her birthday tomorrow, we would love for you all to share any memories, photos or stories you have with our mom. Feel free to post here or message us directly. Thank you for remembering her with us 🤍

          Oh no 😥 😔
I remember Debra very well as she was my inspiration when I first joined Active Melody mid 2017. She was the only female player visible on the forum and participating in the monthly challenges which encouraged me to start doing that as well.

Thank you for letting us know about her passing. I’ve missed her ever since she disappeared from AM.
          R.I.P. Debra

Debra such an enthusiastic part of AM in what I consider the early days and the only regular female presence before our current star cadre.
I dug into the forum and found her last playing submission in 2018. How cool was Debra? Those were the days.

GnL, thanks for letting us know.

This is really sad news. I remember Debra very well. It was always lovely to see her play. She had such a cheerful and inspiring manner. It’s been a long time since I’ve seen anything from her on this forum, but that may not mean much, because how often does it happen that one has to devote oneself to other things and let guitar rest for a while? And now this…

              Rest in peace, Debra.

Very sad about her passing away. I remember well her playing on her cool Taylor T-5.

That is sad to hear, I do remember Debra and some of her playing although I was not participating in the forum or challenges at that time. But I do know that her testimony of ‘Hear from the Members’ was very engaging and sold me to the idea of joining.

Sad news for sure, thank you for letting us know.
Debra was a fixture on the site in the earlier days, she was a kind and welcoming presence who always had encouraging words for all.
