I haven’t played this model but for $189 I would roll the dice. It has electronics too!

Let me know how it is. I really like my AP66 for Sunday lazy couch picking.
After playing Brian’s MPA70 I think I’m going to save up and get one of those eventually. The quality difference is night and day between my AP66. But it was also double the price.
I liked my AP66 more once I told myself it is a $300 guitar and not my Larrivee. Lol! It is my go to travel and lake guitar too!

Hi Bryce I will. I had a Yamaha dreadnought that was excellent…but simply too big and uncomfortable, I forgot the model # but it was about $400-500. I simply would never pick it up so I sold it and got my money back….fortunately. You know that acoustic is not my priority and I’ve been on the prowl for a parlor, tried a few Alvarez’s all excellent but didn’t want to spend that much for a secondary guitar…this seems perfect for my needs, function, and price….If I do become king finger picker some day then we’ll move up. And I can always give this one to my Grandson as a starter.

I’d be wary about the Alvarez’s thin neck — no way my fat fingers would fit. Especially since I tend to fingerpick more than not. I think this guitar really was designed for kids. A true parlor has a normal-size neck.
And I’m always wary about cheap acoustics. Too much can go wrong. I have nothing against Chinese-built guitars (I’ve had some great Chinese-built guitars), but there’s a price point below which they simply aren’t worth it.

It is true that this model has a 1 11/16″ nut width and not a 1 3/4″ like my AP66 or Brian’s MPA70 but I wouldn’t go as far as to say it is for kids. Different strokes for different folks though. Personally, I think it is a good deal on a knock around guitar.

I disagree from not only experience but because I know long term ant e3lectronics built into an acoustic won’t age like a well branded Martin persay ..like the one Brian just recently snagged used… that guitar can and probably will appreciate like a fine bottle oflong term wine. I think I learned this from my own experience and folks here and there online. I personally am satisfied without a module that becomes outdated in the long term life of any acoustic brand ( not o much like an electric guitar which obviously you can or have researched.I guess it really isn’t a big deal in this instance for a 200.00 dollar guitar which because of the module it is really only worth for down the road resale.

then i guess a strat is out for you too then its nuts width is 1.687 as is a tele, the gibson sg neck is 1.695 and the prs neck is 1.69 its funny I just bought the epiphone AJ-45 for the exact opposite of what you said. no way would I spend $2300 on a Gibson acoustic to much could go wrong and the Epiphone is just beautiful made in Indonesia for $550

basically it is a beginner guitar for it’s wortgh nothing more period ..but i’d recommend the AP70 without electronics is all i’m saying ,, might cost more but better as conveyed..jmho

Roberto, I GUESS SO! Probably a good deal for someone looking for a first acoustic guitar but as I mentioned.. any acoustic with built in electonics won’t appreciate for resale over the long term like a well made without the electronics built in.. not even an argument.. it’s cheap enough but just stating a fact.

Hi John, I actually don’t disagree with you. I had a $400 Yamaha and never touched it, nor would I spend on an acoustic what I’ve spent on electrics. So for someone whose main purpose is playing and enjoying acoustic music the decision is different. My risk is $189, no appreciation is expected….I wasn’t looking for electronics, just happened to be part of the deal. While I can claw pick pretty well I want to do more on the slide and more orthodox picking…so I frankly don’t want a guitar I’ll be afraid to scratch, etc. I’m pretty sure it won’t be perfect, but it will do the job and then I’ll pass it on to my Grandson.

Roberto,
I think you got a great deal and as you’re starting out on your finger picking journey I’m sure it will serve you well.
All the best,

I for one thinks that it is a lovely looking guitar.I would be happy to have something like this in my collection( I use the term lightly) We all buy instruments to fit a purpose, it matters not what that purpose is imho. Some buy as investments, Some buy as an entry into a differing style of playing and some buy what they can afford or justify spending on their hobby.
I have probably said this a million times and I will probably say it a million more. “Music cares not a jot what it is played on, that my Friends is a people thing”…
HNGD Roberto and Butch, you are both going to have to give us a sound bite of your new guitars...Billy..

Now, now, I’m just going by the company’s own description of their guitar. They’re marketing it as a student model. And a lot of the reviews confirm this.
You can’t compare an electric guitar neck with an acoustic guitar neck, since acoustics tend to have thicker strings, making the string spacing more awkward for finger style.
But don’t get me wrong, I’m no guitar snob — most of the guitars I’ve had in the past few years have been Chinese built, and I’ve had some real winners too. No way I’d ever drop a couple grand on a guitar either — the missus would kill me!
On the other hand, I’ve bought several cheapo guitars (from China or elsewhere). And you really do get what you pay for. I’ve found that if you go below $400, things get very dicey.

That be good advice Marty V.. Also, I’d always like a 30 free day free return policy,, customer satisfaction is important these days more than anytime in the past.. because it is true things are dicey these days.. less quality control and too much dicey marketing from overseas..including credit cards! that is why I don’t use Pay Pal Synchromy bank mastercard any more I found out their customer care has one automated phone number and very shady customer overseas service.. I terminated that Pay Pal for that credit card.. you might ask what credit card has to do with shopping for a guitar.. believe me, use a good card like Amazon Visa .. much safer return policy/policies and reward points to add!!

btw, i have my legend made usa conn. early 1970s year old.. I bought for 400.00 way back when.. the black balladeer made in korea i want to sell for 550.00 with hardshell case if anyone is interested.. going to try selling on reverb.com.. (I don’t need two ovations) but agree Billy nice little alvarez,,I know from playing different fret lenghts i’d always opt for 20 frets rather 18 (scale lenght 14 frets better than 12th at the body) those last two extra frets make a big deal for me anyway.. still enjoy my 18 scale length AP70

Roberto, it is about the same year as mine. I’ve been so impressed with the legend.. really incredibly tight well made and tunes and just great tones, i’d never sell it because it simple sounds awesome holds a tune warm Ebony fret board and for whatever reason possible back than or maybe as theyt say aged wood?.. anycase, it blows away the made in korea Balladeer,, Balladeer is nice for 500.00 electric acoustic figure sell I’d it with 100.00 case for 550.00 ..yeah Roberto check out that Guild I linked you.. I’d be more interested in the Guild for around that price tag. which ever you buy , can’t go wrong!,, I sometimes think how many tank full of gas i burn at the pump 40 to 50 fill ups in a few months I can own a nice acoustic for years of pleasure and sell it for few bucks less i paid anytime I want! So buy collect a few and learn some finger picking! cheers good buddy!

OK, the controversial Alvarez for beginners arrived today! First time I’ve received an acoustic in the mail, wow what a packing job by Alvarez and Musicians friend….
No cosmetic or physical issues, loved the color more than I expected and I wasn’t expecting such quality for that price, impressed. Very comfortable to play, neck is about like my 96 strat, never played an acoustic with electronics, played it through my Mustang, it has a lot of potential….for my purposes this was a fantastic deal. Thanks Deluxe Strat for posting it, I owe you one!!
