Can someone tell me if I’m confused about something. Brian says he slides from pattern one up to pattern two of the A major pentatonic scale in the explanation of the first lick. To me it seems like he is sliding from pattern 5 to pattern 1 of the a major pentatonic scale. What’s the ups? Can anyone explain it to me? Thanks. This is my first post. Hello everyone.

He’s using the minor pentatonic patterns, not the major pentatonic. I think that’s your confusion point.

ML is not in the key of A, but in E. Didn’t hear a reference to the A major pentatonic scale in the video. But there was a thread along these lines a couple of months back. I think a lot of people, and I know Brian is one of them, use Pattern One based on shape regardless of whether you are playing in major or minor. So A major pentatonic pattern one is from high to low 2-5,2-5,2-4,2-4,2-4, 2-5. If you slide that up to to the fifth fret it is pattern one of the A minor pentatonic. But as it turns out from that other thread, I think some people give different names to the same pattern, depending on whether it is minor or major. Hope that helps

Shoot! Messed up my first post. It’s ML-48 I’m referring to not 47. Sorry. Can you help?

I learned that yesterday but didn’t watch the video. Pattern one of the A minor pentatonic scale is at the fifth fret. If you slide that same pattern 3 frets toward the headstock, it is pattern one of the A major scale. When he slides from the fourth fret to the sixth fret, he is sliding from pattern one of the A major scale to pattern two of the A major scale. Some have different number patterns for the scales but Brian’s way makes more sense to me.
                And welcome to the site.
