Found this app the other day while looking to update my tuner ..Fender Tune.. IMHO is head and shoulders above all the other free tuners, why do I say this. well, here are some of the tunings it does for free.
There is also a setting for Acoustic, Electric or Bass guitar..Billy..

Can someone explain the advantage of an app that does “tunings” over a simple chromatic tuner? I’ve never understood. For me, the only things I want out of a tuning device are 1) accuracy and 2) the ability to see how far off you are from pitch, preferably in cents. But maybe I’m missing something.

@duffy
In terms of the accuracy probably no advantage, if not plugged into a pedal tuner or amp tuner IE Mustang or Yamaha..it’s simply handy, I almost always have my phone, so the tuner is always with me…I go to the guitar store nothing is ever tuned correctly…pull out the phone. In addition, they usually come with additional functionality or a few hundred tunings we wont use…but the key ones are there….convenience.

I’ve tried 6 different tuner apps, and 3 clamp-on tuners (Boss, Korg, and one other which I no longer have). For me, the gold standard is my iPhone app called Guitune. The only limitation I found is that the mic on iPhones can’t hear the low D of a 5-string bass. That can be overcome by plugging an upgraded mic into the iPhone. The other interesting thing is that none of the tuners – apps or otherwise – agree 100%. If I tune my Strat using Guitune, it sounds totally in tune with Brian’s jamtracks. If I use the clamp-on tuners, it sounds a little flat. Not much, but noticeable to me. I can open Guitune, then turn on either clamp-on tuner, and I have to set the clamp-ons a few cents higher to match Guitune.

There probably isn’t any, I just thought that this one was handy because it had loads of tunings and could make life a bit easier for us novice players with cloth ears.

I’ve been reading Acoustic Guitar Bible by finger-style master Eric Roche, and he thinks we’re getting too reliant on electronic “visual” tuners, we’re using our eyes instead of our ears for tuning, and he suggests getting back to tuning with our ears, the old harmonics way. Close your eyes and listen with your ears.
Just sayin’
