From 1990
Just before the album that this song was released on, Larry was shot with a 357 magnum point blank in his neck. He nearly died, he couldn’t talk due to damage to his vocal chords and the weight of the guitar was too much. On top of all that, he had no strength in his hands to fret
He had heard a noise just outside of his home studio and he walked to close the sliding door so his dog wouldn’t gt out. There was a teenager in his yard, just a few yards from Larry and for unknown reasons, the young man raised the gun and shot Larry. I don’t know if they ever caught the shooter
He was quoted as saying that one day he was able to play his version of Layla completely through, he knew he was back.
