Anyone remember Electra guitars from the 70s & 80? Those neat Les Paul style guitars that you could buy various effects modules that plugged into a recessed cavity in the back of the guitar?
One of the former employees has gone to task to acquire the rights to use that brand name and Electra is back. They haven’t produced any effects modules yet but they are employing some innovations in their tone controls
Take a look their current line up.

I have an Electra guitar, that was bought for me when I was a teenager. I got it around 1980. Haven’t played it for many years, my amp kicked the bucket and I never got it fixed. I always loved the way it sounded for blues. It’s cool there back. Maybe I’ll figure the amp situation out and start on some of the electric lessons. I have not listened to any of them yet, just joined for the acoustic lessons.

What amp do you have and what is it doing/not doing?

It’s a Peavy Renown, I think. It’s been so long I don’t remember what was going on with it. I’ve got it stored in my basement. This weekend I will get it out and take a look at it.

I have two Electra’s. One is a Phoenix X-135 that I bought in a pawn shop in Dallas around 1990. It’s a great instrument – maybe the best one I own. I like my LP Studio and my USA Strat, but the Electra is better (and it was about $900 cheaper).
It has the best sounding, most responsive humbuckers I have ever heard. The coil split is a fantastic Stratty thing (coil split on the Studio is comical). It has a big fat neck, brass nut and bridge. The action is low with no hint of string buzz anywhere. It does everything a guitar is supposed to do, and does it well. I don’t know how you could top it.
The other Electra is a SSS model. Good guitar, but not great – no hum canceling in position 2 and 4. I don’t think it was made in the Matsumoku factory.
