i have just been on youtube and learned the first part of a song, which is basically……..well it’s not strictly a chord but it involves hoding down two strings and moving the note up and down the fret a couple of frets either way, i then pulled up a tab for the same song and it shows to hold down THREE strings and do the same thing, the three string version sounds a lot thicker and well……better!
Is there morte than one way to play a song correctly? is the only correct way the version by the artist, or is it acceptable to modify it to ones own liking and still call it by the original name of the song and say ok this is MY version of whatever the particular song may be?

You’ve just discovered that a lot of Tab that is found on the net is inaccurate. It’s usually an interpretation of the song as posted by the uploader. Tab will generally give you the “feeling” of the song or a buskers version. Some is very accurate & has obviously been taken from a publication. A chord holding down two strings is usually called a “Double Stop” which Chuck Berry style music is famous for. Often songs can be simplified for beginners, which you will find if you get any of the Warner Bros. SongXpress tutorials. Hope this helps -
