For this month’s challenge, we were to try to use space/room to try to focus on emotion rather than filling every beat with notes.

I’ll bet you thought I was going to play a slow blues, didn’t you?! 😏🤪 Well, I heard Active Melody member Wayne Nunez’ version of this a couple weeks ago and it sounded so good I thought I’d give it a try for the challenge…Eric Clapton style string bends and playing with emotion – Guitar Lesson EP577.

First I play Brian’s lesson and then my composition. Brian mainly used the C shape Major Pentatonic pattern whereas I mostly used the G and E shape patterns in my comp. The background video is from a concert by Eric Clapton & Friends – Live in Birmingham 1986.

        I used my:

Fender Stratocaster Standard
        Spark 40 Amp
        Logic Pro 12
        GoPro Hero 12
        Final Cut Pro 12

        Joe

The sight of a touch, or the scent of a sound,
Or the strength of an Oak with roots deep in the ground.

You certainly captured the emotion and the space there Joe. Great stuff.

What I like about this post is the positive, cheerful vibe it conveys. The guitar sounds fantastic and is played beautifully.

            Thank you very much, Werner

Yes sir, that was some great playing Joe. That’s also a favorite of mine too.

Go slow and practice correct technique, and your abilities will dramatically improve.

Goodness, Joe! You’re sounding great here! Melodic, good phrasing and pauses, you nailed it! And that rhythm section behind you looks top level!

That lesson is a great way to learn to make “statements” with single notes. I remember that I worked on the lesson but found it too difficult with the phrasing and timing.
You played very well and mastered all the timing and phrasing. Your own comp went smoothly into Brian’s.
I like the EC video in the background.

                        More Blues!

Good one, Joe. You’re bending those strings and making it cry and sing with emotion.

Incredible, Joe! Unmistakably EC style all the way through, performed on the stage with Eric himself! So well done, both musically and video editing-wise.

Nice work with the lesson , and your own improv transitions very smoothly in the same theme , leaving a few rest beats in between licks .
