Hi Manfred, another absolutely outstanding piece from you. You’re definitely right that, as a musician, when you use fewer notes and create more “space,” you place greater emphasis on mood and atmosphere.

Your composition would make a great soundtrack for a Western movie. Our American friends should pitch it to Hollywood.

Nice job, Manfred. I listen to the Ry Cooder channel on Pandora radio and have heard other cuts from the Paris Texas soundtrack. You captured that eerie spacious vibe masterfully. Great post.

Hi Manfred , nice choice of backing track ( I used the same ) , you gave this a dark haunting quality, it oozes with mystical vibes, fantastic use of space throughout letting those phrases stand out , this has to be one of your best to date and it’s always interesting to hear a different take on the same track .

Oh, yes! You NAILED this task, Manfred! 💓💓💓 Love this kind of atmospheric haunting melodies, I think you went to the right place for the inspiration, and picked the right backing track. Fun fact: I was going to use that same backing track for this challenge until you mentioned you were going to as well during the AM Zoom chat, haha! So I decided to go in a different direction 😊 Love your playing here and love that Classic Vibe tele (always want one when I hear you play it).

You mentioned Paris, Texas soundtrack on my last month’s submission and even though at that time I did not see the movie, I was familiar with Ry Cooder’s work on it. I clearly hear its influence here in your playing. And out of curiosity, I did finally watch the movie, as well. It somewhat reminded me of the Bagdad Cafe I saw many years ago, open space kind of vibe but maybe not as dark.

I think we all learned something huge this month. Space is king. Best challenge month ever.

Well it seems several of us took what could be called the “soundtrack route” to this challenge. Whether Western, action or film noir, I’ve heard a number of really convincing pieces. Yours is no exception; it paints a wonderful atmosphere and could easily be paired with some sweeping visuals.
Love Ry Cooder’s Latin inspired works, will have to check out this movie!
