My immediate thought was “He’s playing Blackbird”. It definitively has that same sort of vibe to it. Still very good though. It just goes to show how powerful existing hooks are.
Go slow and practice correct technique, and your abilities will dramatically improve.

Yup, it was definitely inspired by Paul McCartney-after finding this:
The Beatles’ song “Blackbird” was inspired by classical composer Johann Sebastian Bach, specifically his Bourrée in E minor (BWV 996). Paul McCartney adapted the guitar technique from this lute piece, which he and George Harrison learned as teenagers, to create the song’s signature fingerpicking style and melody.

Nice catchy arrangement John , I can also hear the Beatles influence , this is a real ear worm , love the simplicity of a melody that comes out of a finger style piece .
It’s clever and it totally works.Martin

Love the chord progression,
Like Richard I immediately had to play it myself.

Great stuff, John. Reminds me of Taj Mahal riding along in the horse drawn carriage playing “Sweeter Than a Honey Bee” as he road through the streets of New Orleans.

I think it reminded me a little of “Fast Car” by Tracey Chapman. Nevertheless, it had the makings of a great memorable intro.
That guitar is a beast, you seem very attached to it.

Great melody, and definitely could hear that as the backbone of a song. I heard a blackbird vibe at first too but just noticed John’s comment and thought oh yes! A hint of fast car which was a cracking hook too.
Really clean finger picking on a mighty guitar! -

John, nice to hear an acoustic fingerstyle approach to a hook. Sweet picking and nicely packaged with a pleasant chord progression.

It’s beautiful how you do this without accompaniment and still stay nicely in time, well played.

You and your Hummingbird seem to be getting along so well, John 🙂
Of course, I love this! A great fingerpicking variations on the themes of “Blackbird” and yes, “Fast Car” too, I hear a little bit of both songs but with your own touch. A lovely harmonic at the end!
