Hi all, posting recording number 3! This one pre-dates when I learnt how to record properly so it’s a phone recording. The audio is therefore not great but I wanted to share anyway.
Even though there are a few mistakes, I was happy that at the end of the second run through where I messed up I was able to improvise something that fit.
Areas where I could have improved:
– I mute some notes prematurely which affects the overall flow of the piece imho. I should have let them ring out.
– the tone is a bit blandArea that I’m happy with
– this felt very relaxed and natural to play
– I improvised on the spot when I made a mistake.
– this was one take (I think so anyway)
– I think my timing and phrasing was accurateWould be interested in your thoughts. Happy to hear honest and brutal feedback as this helps me to improve.
All the best

Love it. We are getting a real good view of your excellent left hand technique and I’m a little jealous because I struggle with left hand collapse. So you really have it Ben.
Go slow and practice correct technique, and your abilities will dramatically improve.

Nicely done, Ben. One take is rare in my house.
One suggestion is to emphasize those micro bends on the flat 3rd to give it more of a blues feel. I think you put vibrato on a lot of those instead.
You’ve got a lot of good technique, you’re well on your way.

You play very well Ben 👌.
The only thing I would say you are lucky getting away with repetitive strain injuries playing in that position. As someone who plays classical there is so much emphasis on how to sit and hold the guitar to avoid those kind of problems. Not that I am perfect but, if I played the way you do, I would be in trouble pretty quickly 🤔

Yeah you’re completely right. It’s definitely a bad habit I have where I just chill out on the sofa. I think I need to buy a stool to sit instead. Thanks for the tip 🙂

I fall into that lazy habit as well, but I can tell you have the overall proper hand technique down quite well and it does not appear to hamper you playing ability.
Go slow and practice correct technique, and your abilities will dramatically improve.

Sounding pretty good to me Ben. 👏👏🌟👏👏 My main recommendation would be (like Geoff), your sitting posture. I’ve had a lot of lower back issues in the past and I would suggest sitting on an actual chair or stool when playing. Another suggestion would be accentuating slightly either the first note of a bar or other important notes to add to your phrasing and overall musicality. But really, overall: great playing. All the best! 😎🎸😎

I think you are too critical of yourself, Ben. No flaws or flubs that I can hear and the tone is just fine. Excellent playing.
