Hendrix’s version of this song is by far the most popular and widely recognized. A little known fact about Jimi’s version is that if you look @ the credits, you would see Dave Mason listed as a rhythm player. That is because he and Jimi were friends and when Jimi, being a huge fan of Bob Dylan, heard Mason and his band doing their version, decided to do a cover and the rest is history.
Dave was also slated to be the 2nd guitar player in Derek & and Dominos with Clapton. Legend has it that he made an unannounced trip to England; during his absence, Clapton met Duane Allman, and again the rest is history.
