I journeyed back to near the dawn of AM time and found this catchy two part Allman Brothers style lesson. The first part EP047 is an acoustic rhythm part while the follow up, EP048, added a backing track and a lead, to which I’ve added an additional verse with my own lead ideas.

Following this challenge, I’ve decided I’m a big fan of the key of D so I’m looking forward to seeing all the other key of D submissions. It may take a while to do that as I’m on holiday for the next week.

Beautiful playing Andy. The acoustic and electric melded together so nicely and sounded wonderful.

That was awesome work on both parts Andy. You picked a great song from the past.
Go slow and practice correct technique, and your abilities will dramatically improve.

Simply outstanding, Andy! Such a nice and tight performance, loved both parts, acoustic rhythm and the electric lead. You produced some very nice vibratos in there, perfect tone – reminded me of EC’s style – so good!

Wow Andy – that’s a real blast from the past! That was one of the first lessons I learned, but I haven’t played it or even heard it for years. To my ears, you totally nailed it!

What a great lesson! That acoustic part is driving and catchy. Great tone on the electric, that fits perfectly.

This is a great one from the archives because of its catchy rhythm. Andy you just gave it a cut and polish and made it all new and shining again. Both parts fitted it perfectly. Your arrangement of this really inspires one to actually go back to this lesson and see it in a different light. What you did with it was superb.

Wow that is going way back in the archives, but what a gem to find! Both parts sound great and really fine picking all around. Nicely done Andy, the key of D sure seems to like you too.

Andy, excellent lesson choice! I love that Allman style and you’re right there’s something about the D chord, especially with these changes on the bass strings.
I liked your playing of that EP047 and EP048 so much that I just had to start working on it myself.
You played the acoustic rhythm very precisely (great timing!) and with that super tone on your Martin.
Loved the overdrive sound on your Tele as a contrast. Great choice of tone setup (sounds almost like a Gibson).
I enjoyed listening very much. Thanks for the inspiration.PS: the color of your pullover would match perfectly with my Misty Tele.
More Blues!

Andy, you put a lot of work into that one and it shows. Great job and I like the vibrato you used on the electric. Cheers. Pap

Yes, same choice as me! Acoustic and electric, Andy. But we didn’t plan this.
Here, you show how these two guitars can complement each other perfectly. The acoustic guitar sets the groove and gives the foundation, while the electric guitar shines with great runs.
And you’re the guitarist who pulls this off wonderfully.Take the chance to meet your AM friends on Zoom
The next Meetup will be on February 28, 2026For more information click here
I look forward to meet you.

Great sound, Andy. Loved your lead playing but I really, really enjoyed watching your strumming hand on the acoustic accurately picking out individual strings.

This was really really entertaining! I like the acoustic backup with the electric lead, too, as you reach back into Brian’s ancient history. Excellent musicianship.
