Many of us remember the advertising campaign of Memorex for their recording tape, cassette & reel to reel.

Those days are long gone but today we have to question if what we are hearing is humans making music or whether it is AI.
Austrian Metal guitarist Bernth analyzes some common videos that are found on You Tube to indicate what is happening with these recordings. I believe that Rick Beato has similar videos about this issue

        Enjoy

Lots of gullible viewers out there. But there really should be a clear watermark or label for those of us who are not quite familiar with AI trickery. There is going to come a day where the strings appear to bend correctly and the glitching gets smoothed out.

Go slow and practice correct technique, and your abilities will dramatically improve.

We are all doomed by the future of AI. True, we will not be able to tell real video from AI generated video. So what will we do? Go to live venues where we can see the actual humans performing. That will work until robots are perfected to the point where we can’t tell robots from humans.

              Hey Keith,
Edgar Allen Poe was right. Believe none of what you hear and only half of what you see.

That was one of my father’s favorite quotes, from long before the internet. I still believe in it, although I’ve adapted it to don’t believe anything I see or hear without verification.

Playing devil’s advocate here, but I wonder how this is much different than back when electronic boxes and multi-track recording produced music that nobody could play live. Did people have the same complaints and reservations then? Probably a lot of enjoyable music was produced, and will be produced. If AI can produce music that people enjoy, is it bad? People will have to be more careful about being conned in some way, but we will probably adapt.

To play devil’s advocate a little further….. even with all of the production and multi-track recording, behind all of that was the human element, the human touch…

When a commercial comes on TV or between You Tube videos, I’m hearing a lot of rap & hip-hop influence in the music and it has drum loops, strings loops, orchestral loops – its all too perfect
An ad comes on with hand claps or a constant kick drum or finger snaps….all too perfect. No human element whatsoever. It’s easy to pick up on that

I then have to go back to Bob Seger’s lyric – Today’s music ain’t got the same soul, I like that old time rock ‘n’ roll….

Yes the AI music sounds good, some of the blues songs that I’ve heard sounds great but….

With those songs, we no longer need a BB King or an Albert King. We don’t need Jimi Hendrix, Jeff Beck, Eric Clapton….we just need a computer and a program.

The first time that I heard BB King, I think that I was about 12 or 13 – I’m Payin’ The Cost To Be The Boss. It grabbed me like nothing that I’d heard before
During high school, I listened to Grand Funk Railroad a lot – still consider them to be a great band but a friend told me one day, if you think that is good listen to this!! He dropped the needle on The Allman Brothers Live At The Fillmore and Duane’s opening slide lick on Statesboro Blues cut thru me. I stood there with my mouth open amazed at what I was hearing
I heard Alvin Lee & Ten Years After’s albums A Space In Time and Rock & Roll Music To The World – 2 albums that I still listen to today. Amazing musicianship and playing – the ability of those 4 guys on their instruments came from hours & hours of work to cultivate those abilities.

AI music will never be able to affect people like this. Music has to come from the heart & soul regardless of style
