A couple of weeks ago we were invited to provide the music for a large house party. It was a beautiful, chilly night in the desert. As usual, we played half originals and half covers. Here is a “traditional” cover.

Let me know if you want more from that evening.

Very cool David…. let me top off my coffee and I’ll be back-lol… I’m back-Great stuff. Love the harmonies wow! Beautifully sung and of course the guitar work is genuine and smooth. You know, its fun to listen as well as watch. The longer the tune goes on the more I pick up by watching everyone… as the bass players strolls by and the percussionist is doing her thing. Ya’ll sound tight. BTW is the gentleman on the right playing a Gibson Artist or Hummingbird Pro? Thanks for sharing. Would love to hear more!

Very polished performance by your group, Dave.
Loved your creative solos and the dynamic you built as the song progressed. Took me a minute to spot you without the usual hat! You looked like you were bundled up to keep warm.
What else was in the set list?

I would hate to play in the cold. My hands don’t work when cold, but you pulled it off nicely David. The last solo was great. I’m sure everyone had a good time at that desert party. Glad you got a recording of it.

Go slow and practice correct technique, and your abilities will dramatically improve.

Thanks Michael. Yes, it can be challenging for fingers to do what they’re supposed to do when its cold.

Excellent rendition of the song, David! Your soloing was consistent and brilliant, with recurring “hooking” phrases and several excellent melodic variations, with the final distorted solo as a cherry on the top. Very well played and sung also by the other members! Congratulations on your desert gig, it would have been nice If i could have been there in the audience!

Oh yeah we want more! The DRB sounds great David and your solos are so tasteful. The song goes way back but when The Animals recorded it in 1964 every garage band put it on their list. Your arrangement is one of the best ever!

How about another one of the DRB’s Guy Clark covers? Jim’s voice is ideal for Guy’s songs.

Fantastic to hear you and your band play live David. An all time classic song and you delivered with some classic guitar solo playing. Top shelf! Arrangement from go to whoa was brilliant, band was tight and vocals and harmonies were a pleasure to listen too. And I agree with others, your last solo was cherry on top. A question: What wattage amp are you using for the outside gig? My gig last month I used a 50 watt Boss Katana and I had it up full. My vocals were coming through my small Bose Speaker. And my vocals could have been turned up if needed but I had no where to go with the 50 watt Boss. More videos from your night would be great. We see/hear a lot of indoor recorded playing on AM so really cool to see players playing to an audience. All the best! 😎🎸😎

Thank you Garry. For the past several years I’ve been using a Line 6 Spider V 120 (120 watts) with a Line 6 FBV floorboard. For decades I used Marshalls with multiple pedals but as I got older and found that it took two of us to move my Marshall JCM-900 around, the Spider made more sense. It is light, has practically an infinite range of tones, is simple to set up and use, and is fairly inexpensive. I imagine I will hear a lot of criticism from the anti-solid-state crowd (I used to be one of them.) But I have been very happy with the Spider, and I have never had to push the volume past 75%. Having said that, most of the times when we play to large crowds we use a PA system that the band owns, and that was the case at the recent house party. I just run the Spider into the PA, and use the Spider itself as my monitor.

Congrats on the arrangement of this classic song!I really enjoyed the harmonies in the vocals!Bravo to the 2 members! As about the bass,he seemed so cool!!!!!But what absolutely stood out David is your guitar!I could recognize your characteristic ,melodic, masterful playing in the first soloing and then in the end you surprised me with the dynamic change !!!It must have been a great party!!!

Carolyn has been into Japanese Taiko drumming for years and has been a wonderful addition to the band, And yes, Mark (bass) is cool – at every gig he eventually wanders over to hang out with me. Its a fun group.

I could see the palms softly swaying in the background so I hope there wasn’t too much wind chill. My hands seize up in cold conditions but, if that was a challenge for you, it did not show.
