        Hi.

        Recently I put D’Addario Chromes strings on my Mexican Strat because I love warm mellow tones and I am loving them playing through my Supro Delta King 10 amp. I am using their 11/50’s.

        Is anyone else using flat wounds on their six string guitars?

          Never tried those, what is the advantage over round wound? 11/50’s seems like a very heavy gauge. No way I would even consider anything in that gauge.

          Go slow and practice correct technique, and your abilities will dramatically improve.

            Me. I use flat wound 12s on my carbon fibre acoustic because I’m working on my slide guitar skills. Flat wound gives a really clean sound when used with a slide. Also sounds just fine when played without a slide. Visually speaking, they look pretty strange.

              I like them because they are very mellow and because they have very low string noise. I don’t bend to excess but they give me some interesting sounds like I might get on a hollow body. They also don’t have a lot of sustain which I like because the heavy strings sound like a bass.

                  I think I do remember something about having less noise during chord changes as your fingers slide into position. Never knew it was advantage for slide guitar. Good to know.

                    I used them years ago to reduce string noise. These days it’s coated elixirs on the acoustic and nickel wound D’Addario 10’s on electric.

                      Nice! I used them for a while before the flats. They are good. I like the lack of resonance with the flats.
                      I’m also starting to play a little slide and they work with that too 😊
