Silent Night for acoustic guitar. Very simple but very beautiful. Composed by Franz Gruber in 1818.
Happy Christmas.

Brilliant arrangement, combining strummed chords and melody on top, very well played: always a nice combination. Very enjoyable rendition in very nice Xmas atmosphere!

Brian combined the chords and melody with Angels on High which inspired me to do the same with Silent Night. The melody happened to suit D major on guitar and was pretty simple to work out though, as usual, not so easy to get it right in front of the camera!

I love how the melody is nestled into that commanding strum pattern. And the waltz feel gives a peppy energy to a normally mellow tune. Bravo! 👏

Very cool! It kind of reminds me of a harpsichord sound.

Yes, it might be closer to a harpsichord sound than a guitar! Good comment! But that was not the intention, I envy others this month whose guitars sound like guitars made in heaven. I used a Rhode Videomic GoII with camcorder two metres away from the guitar which I think is the reason for the poor sound. It seems my camcorder is not capable of recording high quality musical audio. I guess next time I’ll have to use a condenser mic plugged into my Tascam Model 12 recorder, import that into Clipchamp with the video and sync the two to get a better sound. More work but worth the effort, I think.

Nicely played…and yes, simple but beautiful. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Nice contribution. I love how you managed to get the melody out of the chords. I will work on this technique. Thank you

Love this style of playing the melody but at the same time find it very hard to do. Your Silent Night sounded so full, upbeat and clear, simply perfect and very – VERY – well played. Even the tree is up and ready, Merry Christmas!

Hi Jonathan, Happy Christmas! This sounds really lovely. The melody sings above the chords very clearly and your strumming pace is right on. I really enjoyed it!

Nice rendition Jonathan. I like the droning effect playing the full chords gave to the piece, and of course the big sound from your Gibson. Happy Holidays!

So no distorted Christmas sounds after all, Jonathan. But I like your strumming chords on your well-sounding acoustic and enjoyed how you let the beautiful melody stand out clearly while you strummed. I like that kind of playing. Merry Christmas to you, too.

Nice one Jonathan, I like the way you brought that melody to life within the chord structure
Which is a fine skill to master .
Lush full tone from the Gibson .
Happy Christmas to you .Martin

That’s an excellent choice it sounds like the kind of Christmas song the family could gather around, sing and enjoy. Big open sound from your gabby there and you cleanly picked out the melody so it sounded like two players,
Have a great Christmas and New Year

It is a beautiful song, and you did it beautifully.
I did this very same piece on my acoustic, but in C instead of D.
Your big instrument gave it a lot of depth, too,And happy holidays to you, too.
