When I started to play fingerstyle guitar I watched and listened intently to artists I admired. Among the Ralph McTell, Bert Jansch, Davy Graham etc one man stood out that played with a difference, his name was Wizz Jones. A legendary folk-blues singer-songwriter who grew up and played guitar in the London suburbs during the 60’s. He continued to play throughout the U.K. and Europe until his death in April of this year.

A very down-to-earth guy who played an Epiphone Texan and always achieved an unbelievable tone from this guitar. Apart from playing and singing the blues, (Black Dog) Wizz also performed a few light-hearted cockney songs (Teapot Blues and Lullaby of Battersea) are two good examples. They were never meant to be anything other than fun and I just wished I’d learnt Lullaby of Battersea in time to play for my Grandchildren.

What a genuine gentleman guitar player! Never heard of him before. Loved the Teapot Blues…apples and pears (stairs)!

What a wonderful performance. Loved his guitar style. Percussive finger style with a great muted bass line. It’s obvious he influenced your terrific finger style technique. Thanks for introducing us ‘Yanks’ to Wizz, Richard
