FOR MY LIMITATION I CHOSE TO DITCH THE PICK. I PLAYED EVERYTHING WITH MY THUMB, EXCEPT FOR THE DOUBLE-STOPS. I HAVEN’T PLAYED THIS STYLE ON ELECTRIC FOR YEARS, BUT I LIKE IT, ESPECIALLY FOR A SLOW BLUES.
BRIAN’S LESSONS AND PHILSOPHIES:
50% OF YOUR SOUND COMES FROM YOUR VIBRATO, WORK ON YOUR VIBRATO, USE SIMPLE PHRASING, PHRASE LIKE A SINGER, LEAVE SPACE AND LET IT BREATHE, AND LET YOUR EARS GUIDE YOU. ALL OF THOSE LESSONS CAME THROUGH ON THIS TRACK. I DON’T SOUND LIKE BRIAN, I SOUND LIKE ME, BUT BRIAN’S INFLUENCE IS DEFINITELY COMING THROUGH IN MY PLAYING.THERE IS A LOT OF EMOTION IN THIS SONG…I HAD JUST HAD A CHEMO TREATMENT, AND IT WAS GOOD FRIDAY SO I HAD A LOT OF THOUGHTS ABOUT THE CRUCIFIXTION AND MY CHEMO TREATMENT AND ALL OF THOSE THOUGHTS AND EMOTIONS CAME THROUGH MY FINGERS. I WAS LIVING THE BLUES.
BACKING TRACK: QUIST’ TRACK FROM EP576
FENDER ULTRA STRAT (P.U. 4TH POS)
FENDER MUSTANG MICRO PLUS HEADPHONE AMP (LAVENDER RAIN SETTING)DEDICATED TO BRIAN SHERRILL

Hope your feeling better.
I love this backtrack from Quist.
I just let everything flowing out of me when I did it and I hear you just did the same.
Nice version.AndréM

This was beautiful beautiful blues and an oddly tinning tone on that guitar.
No matter, your runs, phrasing, bends and trills were all spot on terrific. (Of course a Quist backing track can’t be beat for setting the right mood.)
Good luck with your treatment. -

Feeling it, the connection from soul to fingers. It was so spot on. Beautiful and yet many questions were expressed in your ‘Resurrection Blues’. Now allow the answer to come…. by those stripes you are healed.

Yep, I can see that lot of work went into that one, Ralph – well played! I can relate because I’m into my second year of cancer treatment. I try to adopt a Zen attitude and just live in the moment as much as possible.

Absolutely beautiful, Ralph! You poured your emotions into it and I could definitely hear that, especially that I am very familiar with the backing track (from a previous challenge). Obviously you have no problem using your fingers, no pick necessary, I especially like to ditch it for more emotive playing like you did here. I could listen to this forever…. so many great ideas and techniques in there…
Wish you all the best with the treatments and a full recovery soon! ❤️🩹🎶

You can hear that you’ve put all your emotions into it, Ralph. And through your fingers they flow directly into the notes that come out of your guitar. Wonderful composition! Just like a prayer! All the best to you and that your treatment goes well!

You could tell you were feeling that Ralph. Such depth of soul in your sound and phrasing and dynamics. A joy to listen to from the first note. Loved that super long trill around the 4 minute mark. So simple but so effective.
