When I listen to music, 99% of the time it’s on Youtube, because I like watching the musicians in action. But lately the ads inserted by Youtube are getting a lot more frequent and also lasting longer. Some people say it’s becoming almost unusable. It’s bad enough having a 1-minute commercial at the beginning of a 3 minute music video, but it’s really irritating to be listening to a band and suddenly there’s an ad right in the middle of the song. I’ve thought about paying the money and subscribing to Youtube Premium, but some people have said that after paying for Premium, they still get a lot of ads. A quick Google search said you should not be getting any ads, except those built into the actual video by the content creator.
So I’m wondering, do any of you guys subscribe to Youtube Premium, and if so, do you actually get an ad-free viewing experience?

I have the same question, I’m tempted. I don’t find YouTube at all unusable but I’d be interested to hear about the benefits of a paid sub.
For those of us who hate ads, in the meantime “Skip” is our friend.

Yes, ad breaks on youtube are really annoying and unacceptable. I have downloaded and activated a whole range of blockers (Adblock, Adblocker Ultimate, Adguard, Ghostery) and don’t get any ads. However, in the last few days a warning message has often appeared that adblockers are not allowed, but so far I have simply ignored it. However, I have not been able to download any youtube videos for a few days now. I use a screen-recording software, but of course this is very complicated and time-consuming.

I was a YouTube subscriber and never saw ads. Not sure if I’ll resubscribe though. It’s pretty expensive. US$140 annually is a lot.

I’ve had YouTube premium for years and I don’t receive any ads. It’s wonderful and for me it’s worth it.

I had YT Premium for a while and saw no ads, which of course was nice. Other than that I did not see any more benefits for me so I did not resubscribed. Now I just use free Brave web browser that blocks the ads and unwanted pop-ups automatically.

Hmmm…. I would feel slightly guilty about turning on one of my ad blockers, since that’s how Youtube content creators like Brian make their money. Supposedly when someone subscribes to Youtube Premium, the money is distributed evenly to content creators. But who knows if this is true or not.

I’ve been using AdBlock for years and I’m quite satisfied. It’s not perfect and lately there are some little problems, but usually it still works and I can see video almost always with no ads . Hope to continue this way.

I pay a subscription for AM content. That is how Brian makes revenue from me. I do not feel obligated to watch ads for some kind of common good. That seems ridiculous.

Yes, and I never understood what the advantage was.

I’ve had YT premium for years. I use the YT music app to stream too. I share it with my wife and in-laws. Never see any ads…I think it’s well worth it for the amount of content I get from it.
