I REMEMBER BEING ABOUT 10 YEARS OLD WALKING DOWN THE STREET SINGING THIS SONG AND GROWN- UPS WERE LOOKING AT ME LIKE “WHAT’S WRONG WITH THAT CHILD”? LOL.
STILL LOVE THE SONG. DID A ONE TAKE LEAD IMPROV. WASN’T TRYING TO PLAY PRETTY AND PERFECT, JUST TRYING TO GET THE VIBE I REMEMBER AS A KID. WANTED IT TO BE EDGY AND SPONTANEOUS.

Sounds great! Nailed the sound and vibe of that Steppenwolf tune.
It's all about the journey, not the destination.

This song always reminds me of the movie “Easy Rider.” That started a 55 year love affair with Harley riding. 🙂

Reminds me of Easy Rider too. I remember I wanted to see that movie so bad, but I was too young…Rated R. I’ve probably seen it 20 times since then. (nick, nick, nick).
I’ve got a lot of Harley Buddies, and they love their bikes. I tried riding when I was younger, but I was very reckless at the time, so I decided I was better off not riding.

Love the song, love your guitar parts. Their greatest hits album was often on my turntable.
One of the favourite bands of my youth. I always thought they were Canadian but were actually hybrid Can-Am. In my opinion, all the best music was from ’67-’75.
JohnSteppenwolf was a Canadian-American rock band formed in Los Angeles in 1967.[1][2] The group was founded by singer/rhythm guitarist John Kay, keyboardist Goldy McJohn and drummer Jerry Edmonton, all formerly of the Canadian band the Sparrows.[5] Guitarist Michael Monarch and bassist Rushton Moreve were recruited via notices placed in Los Angeles-area record and musical instrument stores.

Thanks John. I remember when I first saw Steppenwolf on TV and they just looked and sounded so cool, but I felt sorry for John Kay because I thought he was blind because he wore those dark glasses. Later realized he wasn’t blind, he was just cool.
I agree with your ’67-’75 time frame as the Golden Age of music. Probably 90% of my musical influence is from that period. Music was everywhere, and I listened to music constantly and spent all of my paper-route money on records. I can still remember the first time I heard Hendrix, and I was only 10-11, but knew he was great.
In 1967, I could go outside and hear a local band The Music Explosion practicing. I’m sure you remember their one hit “Little Bit Of Soul”. Huge hit in ’67. I eventually became friends with the guitar player (Tudor), and the bass player (Burton), and jammed with both of them at different times. They were both very serious musicians and quite good players.
What a great time to be a kid and love music. I was so fascinated about music back then. It seemed so magical. I started thinking at a young age “Well how do they do that”, and like you, it’s turned into a lifelong journey of learning “How do they do that”? Such a fun journey, and reminds me of being a kid, and still being fascinated by music.

I agree, it was a great time to come of age with music. I worked Menswear at K-mart and spent all my break time and and minimal wage in the record department discovering great albums like the original Black Sabbath and the double Chicago Transit Authority.
John Kay did have visual issues that required the dark glasses, Ralph.“with an eye condition called achromatopsia that would leave him visually impaired, totally colorblind and with a severe aversion to light.”

Thank You Helen, I was quite a wild child…turned out OK though. I was going for a Bar Band type of vibe. Never got a chance to play this when I was playing in bands.

That was awesome Ralph. I wore out my Monster album and now have it framed hanging on the wall in my office. My favorite song was “Monster/Suicide/America”. You definitely nailed this one!

Thanks Joe, I did listen to the Monster medley today. Haven’t hear it in 30-35 years. A lot of great guitar work on those songs.

Ralph, you are the man ! 😎. Phew, that sure was some good playing from you as usual. Always impressed at how you churn out these great covers.
This song was probably a little before my time but I have heard it before and it is one of the greats for sure . Curious, did you do both the rhythm and the lead parts on this? Honestly, i would not be able to distinguish your parts from the original.

Thanks Geoff. I doubled the Rhythm guitars. Super easy to play. It’s only E and A with 6ths added, played with a capo at the 3rd fret, making the chords G and C. Doesn’t get much easier than that.
I just listened to the original, and it’s much more psychedelic than what I did. I loosely base my version on a live version by John Kay, the lead singer. Still a great jam song.
As always, Thanks for listening Geoff. Stay Well,
Ralph

Great job on this one, Ralph. A friend had this record and we had to keep the volume down on “The Pusher” because his Mom didn’t approve of the language. 😀 Great recording too.

Thanks James. I’m glad you didn’t get corrupted by The Pusher. I didn’t have the record, but heard it a lot at a friend house. My Mom wouldn’t approve either.

Thanks Sal, I got the idea to do this song because I saw a John Kay live version on YouTube. He still rocks and sounds great. Good Ol’ Song.
