Ive been messin with dear antlers
Ive seen bone picks online before,so i thought Id try and make some
they are hard to cut, they dull the blade, and with them being round and weird shaped its hard and scary trying to run them through the table saw
they are very hard material, I can tell by trying to file and sand them
Ill give them a good try and see how I like them -

you need to use a band saw for this
go to your local butcher shop, their saws are set up for cutting bone. then round the edges with a belt sander & shape your pick -

I use a 1 mil pick. Had one made from a Buffalo nickle, of course I didn’t make it, but is was interesting. The way I loose picks I can’t afford them. Is there anything you can’t build? 🙂

Nice work.
I’m really good at making……mess, noise and my better half cranky. I think on balance you win. ?
As for the deer antlers I never realised how tough they were until we bought a deer antler chew toy for our dog. She actually gave up trying to destroy it which is a first. The so called indestructible dog toys normally last less than an hour.

Thanks for putting up the pics Butch. Some I’ve forgotten, Butch made me a parts tray, picks, cord hanger and the less paul looking phone amp. I tried making the lamp after I seen his. I ended up taking my lamp project outside and.pouring kerosene on it and set it on fire. Butch can get down with building stuff.

This is what I do with deer antlers. Just be careful about breathing the dust.

Some of the people that paid attention in class say the dust can cause scarring in the lungs, allergies, and sometimes even pneumonia. But they also say red meat and beer is bad for you. I always wear a cartridge type respirator when I cut or sand it. Like I always say, safety third.
