I’m getting that message more and more often now when I click on someone’s video post. It happens with all of the 3 browsers I use, so it must be coming from Google/YouTube. So now when I click on someone’s post, I just immediately click on “Watch on YouTube” and it works perfectly every time. Yes, it’s a hassle because I have to return to the AM page to leave a comment. But at least it works.
This is happening on many business sites that use embedded Youtube videos. Nobody has a good answer. One Reddit user did this rant:
“I am on an iPad using the latest Safari browser with no extensions and started coming across this quite a while ago on so many business websites where I am trying to look at the product video or informational videos and I am asked to sign in by the embedded video ‘player’. But sign in to what? There’s nowhere to sign into other than the account I may hold with the business who own the website I’m visiting, which makes no difference. I’m already signed into YouTube, so where is this message expecting me to sign in?
This is interfering with commerce and general, legitimate use.
There’s also no easy way to find a solution when using Google or YouTube’s website. This has been going on for ages now and I’m completely frustrated that this can even go on without even updating the message with better information on where the user is to sign in to prove they are not a bot!! What gives? Is there anyone at YouTube actually working on this insane problem?”Sunjamr Steve

This message is normally meant to be a push back from a target site (YouTube in this case) when it detects too aggressive requests from a given IP address (in this case: ActiveMelody) and is led to believe that it might be under “attack” of a bot.
Like if too many AM users were viewing embedded YT videos simultaneously. The server that Am is hosted on would send lots of requests to the YT servers.
But since everybody on the internet seems to be complaining about this, the situation above is very unlikely.Google has recently (June 2023) embarked on a new crusade against Ad blockers and video downloaders, which obviously mean they have changed the code of many of their services. In doing so, they may have introduced bugs. No, let me rephrase that: in doing so, they have certainly introduced bugs and this may be the visible effect of one of them!
That being said, the YouTube iframe code has always been a bit of a problem anyway…Not sure if anyone at Google is actually looking into this. After all, forcing users viewing an embedded video to log in on the YouTube servers is a sure way to capture them and force more unwanted stuff down their throat…

I think you’re right (although I’m not buying the bot attack part, AM rates have got to be tiny relatively speaking 🤨).
This looks like a bug to a clumsy implementation to try and stop some behaviour YouTube objects too.
My guess is that while it’s just consumers like us complaining the chances of google doing anything about it is going to be vanishingly small. I’ve had a moan to them and not had any hint of an acknowledgment.But channel owners may have more weight. For instance I regularly get emails from Fender with tempting embedded videos of shiny new guitars.
Well they’re not tempting anymore. My curiosity in an attention span limited world is not going to withstand the extra burden of phaffing around with YouTube. Once click through rates for some bigger players start to drop off, perhaps something will get done.There’s another angle too. companies often prevent employees from logging into YouTube (or employees being reluctant to use personal logins on a company pc).
So this policy suggests legitimate anonymous usage of YouTube in workplaces would get impacted. Let’s hope some of those start to rattle Google’s cage.-
After thinking about it, I realize that every time I click on a video in Youtube, first I have to watch an ad. But if I click on an embedded video (in Active Melody or elsewhere) it’s ad-free. So it could be that Youtube is not liking us bypassing their ads, and to punish us they block the embedded video.

Yes, big channel owners will most likely object against Google forcing their customers to leave the current website and go to YouTube in order to view a video.
On the other hand, allowing ads to go unnoticed is a loss of revenue for Google and a potential reason for advertisers to go advertising elsewhere – and for content creators to also go elsewhere since most of them use Google Ads to monetize their channels.
As much as I loathe Google and their business model, I have to admit they usually know what they’re doing. But this time maybe they took a very slippery and dangerous road…
Many lawyers here in Europe think that Google’s measures forcing users to view videos the way they do is illegal under European freedom, privacy and security laws and a new “change that or get another massive fine” is very likely.
And there are increasingly more people advocating a huge public Google-like service funded by European taxes… not sure we’ll get that anytime soon, but the more people talk about it, the better.

Hi Guys
I have had the Bot message ………….and been looking on the internet , many posts
no real answers ……..Lots of code and alternative platforms ……on one site
someone said ………….Try opening a private window to play the video…………….
Well I just tried that and played 12 videos each one from a different source
and no bot message ……is it a fix …….I don’t know but I managed to view 12 with no
message hehe time will tell if it was luck or a fix see what you think………….

Got through to Chargo’s video on the consolidation no problem and then the bot attack began. it’s a real downer refreshing didn’t clear it but replaying Chargo’s did for another half dozen or so then it returned.
It won’t do anybody’s business any good in my view. On YouTube they have started playing fixed lengths of adverts much more and not allowing the skip feature. Once you’ve had to sit through the same add repeatedly it gets to you and is very frustrating. I resolved never to purchase what is advertised. Maybe we could start a run on that line Ha.
Duckduck go are giving google a good run on their alternative search engine which I use and never as far as possible google. Maybe Duckduck go might see an alternative model to you tube at some point, here is hoping. I do recommend to use them if you wish to reduce tracking etc. I believe they have Google concerned at their very considerable success. -
