Hi everyone! This time I asked my friend André to play with me the cover of a song that I like very much.
André played 3 guitar parts: a complementing rhythm guitar, an add guitar part that plays a hypnotique recurrent riff like in the original, and some beautiful psychedelic solos over the choruses. An amazing job as always with his magic guitar!
I played the mean rhythm part and a short slide solo that replaces the organ solo in the original.
We tuned the guitars half step down, so the resulting key is G# (it helped me to sing the song). The slide guitar is tuned in open G# accordingly.
The song is often linked to Halloween, but in my opinion has nothing to do with it. As someone has written, cryptic lyrics like these “serve as a container into which a person can flow their own ideas”.
In my mind the song is about the freedom of the ’60s, and the free introspection and extroversion of those years, threatened by the return of repressive powers and conservatism (as in fact happened later).
The witch is a good witch and tried to protect people like Donovan from those threats. Here’s the song: hope you’ll like it.

A very dynamic performance Guido and Andre. I’ve never heard of this song but this is oh so cool! So much emotion and attitude in your voice Guido. For me, your best vocal I’ve heard. 👍👍👍 Excellent guitar work from both of you also. Loved the added image and the whole performance was so tight! Encore! 👏👏👏🌟👏👏👏 All the best! 😎🎸😎

Nicely done, guys. I always enjoyed that song on my Donovan’s greatest hits album way back in the 70’s. Great idea for the slide to cover the organ, Guido.

Now that is a song I remember well 😁. Donovan was a very underrated musician in my opinion. Very nice slide work Guido and a nice accompaniment from Andre too.

To be honest I wasn’t sure about this song, sorry Guido.
But man I just love the result, you did an excellent job with the mix and video.
BREAKING NEWS: My friend Guido is getting out of his cocoon with this powerful new voice range and he is quite the slide player.
Bravo, adoro collaborare con te.André

That was very incredible, and quite timely if you think about it.
The two,if you were so I synch, the vocals were great, the lead was perfect. I loved everything about the performance from you both.

Thanks John! Yeah, I listened to this version, very original and cool. It’s in D7, a fourth above the original and I could never sing so high 🤣!

A beautiful rendition of that old classic number. A thoroughly enjoyable duet from two of our talented AM players with nice interaction between Andre’s lead fills and Guido’s well-oiled blues vocals.

An absolutely wonderful rendition, Guido & André – always loved this song, plus many of Donovan’s songs 👍🎶😎
Can’t recall what song originally turned me on to Donavan, but I do remember buying a double LP (Vinyl) – one of the LPs contained a collection of songs for children, the other were more ‘normal’ songs 😂.
One in particular, that I used to try, demonstrated his vocal talents, “Hey Gyp (Dig The Slowness)”. Another that I really liked, “Sunny Goodge Street”, is about an old Toy Store / Toy Museum that I used to visit, just around the corner from Goodge Street Tube Station, near Tottenham Court Road, London. Loved that place 👍♥️

Thanks Mark!
I don’t know the songs you mentioned, in fact I know just a very few Donovan’s songs. Very interesting story about “Sunny Goodge Street”! For sure very soon I’m going to listen to them!

Well!!!I must be the only one that has no clue about this song!!!I googled the lyrics and the original version!I wonder what “you’ve got to pick up every stich”means!!!the sure thing is that your production is nothing short of masterful!Andre’s guitars ,especially the soloing is of professional level! As about your voice Guido what can I say?it covers a wide range of songs which proves your talent!!!And next to your cool rhythm playing, the slide playing has been added 💖💞❤️What is left now is for you to learn the drums like Mark and leave us speechless 💖😍😍😍😍😍

Thanks Helen for your very kind words of appreciation!
About “you’ve got to pick up every stitch” meaning, as far as I could find in internet it has to do literally with knitting, for example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GjTc1Xq-rNE
The metaphorical meaning, well, I guess it’s really open to personal interpretation.

This is a beautiful version… love the vocals and the guitar soloing is rippin’60’s VIBE. Very strong performance. You kept this groovy, with an AMAZING SLIDE PRESENCE. You both should be proud of yourselves. This is about as good of a cover that I have seen on this site. Rock on Dudes!

Nicely done guys.
Guido you looked and sounded like a seasoned frontman up there standing in front of the mic and playing the chords without looking – a very good indicator of confidence.
Your voice also sounded, in my opinion, your strongest to date and I think you should keep doing songs that allow you to sing.
Andre your lead guitar work was simply brilliant and it brought everything together.
Loved it. Well done.
Liam.
