OK, time for the August 2024 challenge!
In our continuing series of becoming more and more creative, a venture into songwriting. This was a hard one. Create an intro to a song. Something I’d never even thought about.
What makes an intro? Why does it work? I’m still not sure, but I know it when I hear it.
Here’s a couple of bars of my version. Special treat at the end.
Just focus on the notes you DID get right . . . Frank Vignola

Great retrospective of riffs Bruce. Thanks for putting this all together. And, your own wasn’t too bad either! I enjoyed it.

Works for me! Some great jump blues there.

Great stuff Bruce – I was wishing you’d put a few bars of a jump blues after your intro. Still the medley at the end was quite a wander down memory lane. Incidentally, on the Beatles’ version of “I want to be your man”, I think George Harrison introduced it with a single, bent note: seriously minimalist and it made “Hard Day’s Night” seem quite orchestral, by comparison.

You nailed it Bruce !
Great examples of intros or songs with a hook ! I think the key is that it has to catch your attention, and yours and those examples do..🎶🎵🙂Don P

Nice presentation of some of the great intros through the years Bruce. Yours was good too but you got upstaged at the end. 😂

Nice one Bruce, can always count on you to jump! You are right about “Gimme Shelter”, iconic intro and used in so many movies about the 60s. Cool presentation all the way.

Nice one, as usual, Bruce. Good fun!
Somewhere in my distant past I can remember a TV quiz show where the contestants had to start listening to a song, then the first person to guess the name of the song won that round. I usually got them right before the contestants did.

That intro you came up with sounded great, Bruce! Started kinda slow, then loved how it descended interestingly, and then ended dead center on the chord. And the best thing, all your own!!

Cleverly crafted kickoff that went in an unexpected direction before winding up right where it should. I’m just sorry you didn’t keep going. Well done.

An enjoyable creative response with your unique style. It amazes me that of the colossal music library of riffs we have at our disposal, the Beatles ‘one strum’ can only be one song. There would be a lot of takers for an extended video.

Bruce, you knocked this challenge out of the ballpark! Really well done. I like the examples you gave….they were all really good examples and your hook was pretty solid too….you should work that into a song. Cheers. Pap

Loved your “introduction” Bruce. And it was good to hear you punctuate your list of great song intros with your own blues intro! Very cool sound. Tom
