The first solo is an alternate thumb bass pattern/melody exercise created by David Hamburger. The 2nd solo is based on Micro Lesson 062. Hope you enjoy.

If this isn’t sitting out on the porch playing the guitar, I don’t know what is. Birds singing, guard dog pacing, and thunder on the rise–what an accompaniment to your playing.
Great laid-back performance, John, enjoyed!

Front porch blues alright, nicely played throughout those sequences John and my favourite acoustic all the way.

Nice picking, John. Especially the last bit where you found a good groove. Your dog is not a very attentive audience. He wanted to hear “Police Dog Blues”. 😀

I love acoustic root blues and you played the way is meant to be played.
Very good one.Clau

Great renditions John, despite it seeming you were battling the elements. Despite the wind and the thunder your guitar cut through – I suspect my concentration would have wandered a little under those circumstances.

Your dog seems more interested in admiring the panorama from the balcon and hearing the birds calling, but he (ore she) doesn’t know what he’s missing, John! Jokes apart, really a brilliant blend of this two pieces, with a great bluesy feeling and a steady rhythm, so well played! Great rendition!

Nice recording John! I like David’s channel, though much of the Fingerstyle playing is beyond me. Looks like some nice weather I. Pittsburgh. Enjoy the porch!

That first bit was very interesting harmonically, kept my ear guessing. And that groove at around 2:10 is fantastic!

That’s what acoustic blues is all about John! Sitting on the porch and playing music. Great idea to mix the two and I especially loved the change up in tempo towards the end. Well played. All the best! 😎🎸😎

John, your fingerstyle skills are so good! Love that haunting drone bass and melody going on. Nicely executed c&r lesson. I like how you added your own shuffle at the end. Sounding great. Lovely sounds in the background of your porch 🐦 . Sweet dog, too.

Great fingerstyle playing. Just chilling outside with guitar no amp or backing tracking. This is my favourite style

Excellent John. I wanted to pull up a rocking chair and pet the dog while I listened. I could listen to you play all day long.

This is surely the right way to grab your guitar and play outside on the porch, John. I think your dog is watching for all the people standing down there and are listening to you!
Take the chance to meet your AM friends on Zoom
The next Meetup is expected to take place in November 2025There will be a detailed announcement here in the forum in good time.
I look forward to meet you.

You got a lot of competition from your dog and the squawking birds off your balcony, (Werner has a similar dog cameo) but your finger style was spot on excellent. This is the perfect kind of music for that OM Martin and your rendition was damn near perfection. I only wish it were amplified a little more so I could hear some of the additional nuance. Great playing.

Bravo John, two beautiful blues pieces characterized by a subtle and slight melancholy that resolve in a joyful and pressing ending, naturally performed with the right feeling.

Playing on the porch blues ,it doesn’t get any better than that ,just pick it up unplugged .👌
Both pieces sounded great, you got that thumb bass solid in the first one ,
The relaxed feel of the second one comes through nicely, love the uptempo ending.
Great tone from your Martin it rings like a bell .Martin

John, nice submission. You seemed to really find your comfort zone after around 2 minutes. Nice submission and your dog looks like an awesoem GS. Pap

Oh yes, just as the others have said. Top quality Porch Blues!
Especially liked that groove you got burning at the end there. -

Way to go John, you really hamburgered that! I also do quite a bit of front porch picking during the NZ summer, and that has taught me the value of having electric acoustics with a built-in tuner. We get significant changes in temperature and humidity every day which makes acoustics go out of tune, and opening a tuning app on my phone, or clipping on piezo tuner is not always convenient.

Great acoustic jam John. Well done on the finger style and holding down the bass on the first part. Second part also sounded great and I liked how you ended in a flourish. Nice looking Shepard.

Very inspiring submission John! I found the atmosphere very mysterious and a bit suspended, so interesting!

Hey John:
Your dog seems like a cool cat to hang out with:-)! Great job with your blues playing. You know how to make everything sound good. Combining both fingerstyle and flat picking was both dynamic and exciting. Super enjoyable. Cheers, Tom -

John,
Nice playing as always. Esp like the 062 riffs, you could go on and on.A bit of a bonus, you don’t realize it but the scene made me nostalgic for the Burgh on the summertime. Brick porch – check. Everything is green – check. Plus the pup upstaging you in the background – perfect.
The Martin is sounding good.

Hi John, this was fun to watch! Some porch pickin’ at it’s best. We should have all been together to jam a bit. Nice regular thumping bass in this one, and some mellow bluesy licks on top. I liked it a lot.
