Funk – Lead Guitar Lesson Created By ActiveMelody Community – EP113

Description

This lesson is a follow-up to EP112 Funk Rhythm Guitar Lesson. In the previous lesson (EP112), I asked ActiveMelody community members to submit audio or videos of themselves playing a lead over the funk rhythm jam track. Several people responded by posting their submissions on the forum (you can find them by searching EP112). I didn’t get a chance to include everyone – some of them came in too late in the week, but I did listen to and comment on submissions. It’s always difficult to put yourself out there, so congratulations on having the courage to play for an online audience! This was a fun lesson to create and, depending on how well it’s received, i’d love to do more like this in the future. Leave your comments on the lesson and let me know if you find this type of lesson helpful.

Awesome lesson Brian and everyone who contributed! I also wanted to submit something. I have been messing around all week trying to set up a much better audio recording system for video posts. Almost there (with much thanks to Bryce). I hope you do more of these lessons in the future Brian. Just another brilliant way you have found to really mix up these lessons and keep things new and exciting every week. Great job everyone!

You sir, and everyone connected to ActiveMelody has been a blessing to me.
I wish this this technology was available 40 years ago, but no matter, it’s available now. And I am truly grateful. I love this lesson, and all who contributed.

If i may humbly ask, perhaps someday, you will educate us with a Toy Caldwell lesson, at your convenience of course. I hope your day is most pleasant sir.

    Best to you,
    Lucky

I am somewhat of a tech dinosaur and am somewhat uncomfortable playing something for others to view at this point because I am not very good.  Nevertheless, I also enjoyed this lesson very much as it helps to see how others are interpreting and using the lead patterns.  I have been playing along with the jam track quite a bit.  I am adding this comment so you all know there are probably others like me who got a lot out of this lesson despite the fact that they have may not have posted a video.  By the way, the videos of the members are quite impressive.  I take my hat off to all of you.

Genius!  This idea really unleashed the skill and creativity of your followers and we all reap the benefits of a really cool, Tony Joe White - like lesson.

You ‘‘da man, Brian.  Great lesson.  More in the future.

That was a lot of fun to hear what others have done with the backing track. I envy your ability to listen to something and play it yourself. I have always struggled with that. Here is a suggestion. I know you are not trying to teach music theory, but I think it would be helpful for you to call the notes by name (at least sometimes). Rather than saying “this scale has two extra notes, this one and this one.” Everyone needs to be able to find all the notes on the fretboard by name so that you can quickly move a lick to any position.

By the way, have you noticed that all the comments on the website have the same, incorrect date and time?

Thanks for all the great lessons.

Love it, a great concept stringing all these licks from members of varying abilities worked out really well. Sounds great at any tempo. Good work guys. All the best Kenny Melbourne Aus

Although I haven’t been able to listen to all of the videos or play this lesson myself, I like the concept of using students’ input to develop ideas from the classes, as you’ve done here.

I’m using an ipad4 to view the lessons, and I’m having trouble getting my tablet display full screen on the video tablature section. I click on the gear icon and there is no command to display full screen, as the nomenclature at the top of the section says. Anyone have any idea if I’m doing something wrong?

    Thanks

Brain, you may have been told this many of times before .. I must say that “U” don’t only PLAY and TEACH guitar .. .. .. YOU play with feelings (“SOUL”). I’m working to improve not 0nly
my ability to play, but play with eMotions & Feel were necessary. (Feeling IT !!! Lesson EP113)
