My wife & I are planning a weekend get away and we are headed to Knoxville TN on April 9 to see Robin Trower in concert.
Robin has long been a favorite of mine and when I saw that he was playing in a small venue like a play house for $40 a ticket, couldn’t pass it up. Knoxville is about 3 hours drive for me and we’ll make a weekend of it. -

Sweet! A weekend get away is nice. A weekend get away with a concert is even better!

Robin’s tone comes from a Fulltone Deja-Vibe, a modern take on the Uni-Vibe, a Fulltone OCD and a Robin Trower OD into a Marshall. He also has a wah that was made special for him by Fulltone.
Couple of other pedals as well
His Custom Shop signature Strat isn’t anything special even though it has a price tag of $3600 (last time that I checked)
There are other videos of his rig available but these are 2 of better one

Thanks, Keith. I was checking it out also. That slow, phaser like sound is coming from the vibe pedal. No fuzz though? I think I have to get one of those OCD pedals.

The pick ups on his signature strat are quite specific. Neck-custom ’54 single coil, middle-reverse polarity custom 60’s single coil, bridge-Texas special single coil. I understand he uses the neck pick up a lot of the time.

The Robin Trower OD may give him the same effect as a fuzz pedal, or the combo of that with the OCD
I bought a BBE Soul Vibe pedal that is patterned after the original Uni-Vibe. There is a video of Paul Gagnon, main engineer for BBE, and he goes into detail of buying several of the original Uni-Vibe pedal and they found the strong & weak points of the original design. The end result is the BBE Soul Vibe. Look at the list of components and its easy to see that BBE pedal are built to last

Thanks, Keith. I picked up a used Deja Vibe, already. I was checking out “Bridge of Sighs” and saw he was also tuned down a full tone to D standard tuning. Strats are great for tuning down, I tried that with my Les Paul and it wouldn’t stay in tune.

His pickupss are specific but I don’t find them to be anything special – not custom wound to some specific induction. I do find his use of a flat fingerboard interesting.
All that being said, I just don’t see the price tag being as high as it is.
Did you know that Fender is also selling wine now? One thing that pushed me toward G&L was that Fender Musical Corp. is such a mass marketing conglomerate that has nothing to do with Leo’s vision. Yes, they make good guitars but if they can save a buck by using Part X instead of Part Y, they will do it. I starting to see reviews that the quality of both Fender & Gibson guitars are starting to slip. Hope they get it under control if the reviews are true
OK, its Good Friday so that’s enough of my rant that had nothing to do with Robin Trower

That BBE pedal looked great but I was really taken with Nick’s G&L ASAT Classis tele style with the 3 pickups and vintage 6 saddle bridge. You’ve got me curious now. Anything new means something old has to go (from my wife’s perspective, that could be me!).

What’s the cliche – Easier to ask forgiveness than to seek permission 🙂
I picked up my BBE Soul Vibe for $50 on the used market. Looked brand new – everything from Robin’s tone to SRV’s rotary sounds
