I struggle to find a coherent path in any on line lessons course. have used true fire in the past but as with others found that you finish one module and there is nothing similar to move onto without diverging too much. Is there a coherent path here, or do you just do eandhnof the weekly lessons?

Hi Edward,
There is no coherent path here. Brian does offer an essential theory, CAGED and lead guitar courses but otherwise you jump in to anything that looks interesting in the main lessons or the mini lessons. Some of the lessons are more fundamental than others, ie. triad lessons, CAGED reviews. Brian is a great teacher and is very good at showing some basic theory in each lesson. There is a lot of repetition throughout lessons of fundamental concepts but in spite of that Brian manages to create a great variety of music. Over time you really get a sense of all the fretboard devices that are available to you to help with your own improvisation and composition.
The Soundslice app and backing tracks, with and without guitar, are great assets that make learning easy and really help with timing. You can always supplement with course material from other teachers but there’s not much better value out there. I think Brian even has a refundable trial period.

Hey Edward, I think there are no coherent paths because everyone’s path is different. You have to learn what you want to learn, and that’s it. The whole point of Active Melody is to find lessons that you like and focus on them. At first, you will have to just memorize the lessons you like. Then after you have built up a repertoire along with some technical skills, you will find that you don’t need to memorize entire lessons. Instead, you can focus more on the concepts in the lessons, maybe memorize a certain lick, or learn where all the CAGED positions are. Voila, you are improvising!

Edward
Here’s a suggestion – post a list of your goals, favorite bands, favorite players, what you hope to accomplish with Brian and/or Truefire’s lessons
There are several people on this forum that can advise you on specific lesson so that you could devise your own path. I’m somewhat amazed at the knowledge that Jola has on the various lessons and how she can provide details of the lessons. I think that Jola and others would be a big help to you and others to determine how to best use the lessons
