Black star released a new amp amp today – the Debut 50R
50 watts, 2 channels, 2 reverb modes, 3 band EQ, ISF Ccontrol, power reduction from 50 watts to 5 watts
* Weight – 20 lbs
* 12″ speaker
* $250All analog design and the OD channel uses MOSFET transistors; the significance of MOSFETs being used is that MOSFET transistors operate most closely to vacuum tubes of all transistors and give a very convincing tone when trying to replicate the tone of a tube amp.
Doubt that I’ll rush out and buy one but I think this amp warrants serious consideration if someone is looking for a decent amp for practice and small gigs

Hey Keith,
Competition in the electronics market has led to great new improvements in quality and price. Just as Sony and Samsung battle for the TV market, Blackstar and Roland (Boss) are going at it for amps. Japan and Korea are serious about staying ahead of the pack in this price point. The new Blackstar and the Boss Katana 50 are priced the same. If anyone is in the market both should get a look.

MikeHi Mike
Glad to see that you’re posting. Hope that you are continuing to do well in your recovery
Agreed on Blackstar & Boss coming up with various amps; the Katana seems like a nice amp but I’m not into the bells & whistles of the Katana plus I’d have to check if the Katana is a digital amp or analog. Digital amps are OK but personally, I think that there is a noticeable difference in the overall sound of the two – I know that many would object saying that you can’t tell the difference but……
Having worked in electronics for 20+ yrs and having somewhat of an understanding how MOSFET’s work, the Blackstar amp intrigues me, especially weighing in at 20 pounds. That weight factor is a definite plus for an old guy’s back LOLA few demo videos are being posted

During the last few years I have bought a Boss Katana to play electric through and a Fender Acoustic Junior for my acoustic guitar. I have been impressed with both in so far as quality of sound plus the added bells and whistles in that price range.
