Hi, I’m guessing that there are quite a few people like me, who had an electric guitar as a teenager and played briefly in a band consisting of schoolfriends. That was over 50 years ago and I hadn’t really touched a guitar since. During the pandemic lock-downs, I thought about having another go but never got around to it. Now that I’ve retired and got more time on my hands, I finally decided to get started.
Back in the stone age ( or the late 1960’s ) unless your family had money for a proper guitar teacher, you just relied on what other kids could show you. I spent hours in my bedroom practicing with a 10 watt amp bought from a second hand store ( I can still hear my mother shouting up the stairs “will you turn that DOWN” and me muttering “yeah, whatever” – or the 1969 equivalent 🙂 ) So, those hours of practice mean that I can still play a lot of open chords and move between them reasonably quickly. Also, muscle memory is a funny thing – I can still play a finger exercise on the first three frets of the g, d, a, and low e strings, that I last played over 50 years ago, at a reasonable speed. So anyway, I don’t feel like a complete novice. I’m working my way through Brian’s theory course and enjoying it. I have a classical guitar and also a cheap strat-type electric plus an amp, which our nephew left at my sister in law’s house when he went off to college and lost interest in guitar. If I can prove to myself that I can stick with this and improve over the next couple of months, I will treat myself to something better.
I’m looking forward to this guitar journey and I hope to interact with like minded folks on here.
Cheers

Thanks Mike and Garry. I definitely will keep on pickin’ and I’m sure I will be asking for advice before I splurge. 😉

Hey Les,
I am a lot like you. Same age. same story. I have found it takes a lot of patience and time. Going through the same process. I think Brian’s lessons are really good but I have trouble remembering the material sometimes. I am hoping that I will stick with it like you.
