Hey all. I just signed up here, thinking on whether the premium membership would be good for me, while I’m trying to figure out an order for the lessons. The lessons don’t seem to be organized in any sort of progressive way. Is it really all just random? Maybe I’m missing something. I’ll admit that I think linear learning paths aren’t the be-all-end-all, but figuring out how to steer oneself through a ton of info and practice can be a huge chore in itself.

Welcome String,
Most of the lessons are self contained so you can pick a style that appeals to you. Many concepts are repeated throughout different lessons.
Alternatively, there’s a blue box near the Lessons icon called “Start Here” that takes you to the beginner and essential concepts area. You could also type “triad” or “CAGED” or “arpeggio” or “easy” in the search box to get some of the more fundamental lessons.
Also, Microlessons are shorter lessons that may focus on one concept.
Have fun.

Hey String, it’s true – you can just start anywhere and learning will happen. I like to remind people that many of the older lessons are shorter (and sometimes less complex) so it could be beneficial to check out the lessons earlier than EP100 first. Some of my favorites:
EP037 – delta blues in E (can be merged with EP065/66)
EP050 – Freddie King
EP058 – Jimi Hendrix style
EP060 – Chuck Berry style
EP065/66 – E blues
EP069 – slow Cm groove
EP078 – BB King styleSunjamr Steve

Hi String, this question is not new and there is actually a sticky post (yellow) with lessons supposedly well suited for beginners. What I do is browse through the lessons and see for myself what I would like to learn and see whether it my suit my skills.
I very much like the old lessons, but I prefer those that already feature the sound slice option (starting at EP 086). Slowing down the lessons and repeating more difficult parts helps a lot.-

I appreciate the tips on using the site.
Fyi, I’m not a beginner. I have been playing longer than I like to admit. My skill level is probably much along the line of many other guitar players who have been playing a long time but who haven’t proportionally advanced in improvisation as much. I can improvise, but the range of music in which I feel competent in doing so is pretty narrow, e.g., I can whittle on a slow blues tune all day, but I get incompetent pretty quick in country, swing, and especially jazzier stuff. So I’m looking for good lessons toward getting back to basics by learning the fretboard really well (notes, intervals, scales, arpeggios, triads), learning more lines from recordings by ear and trying to analyze them, and somehow developing a stronger sense of melody in my playing, rhythm and lead. The biggest hurdle has been finding effective and efficient ways to practice. Hopefully I get it done before the long dirt nap. Not that I’m getting close to that point, but who ever really knows.
Any way, it looks like there are some good lessons here, so I’m going to give it a go. But I do have real reservations on trying to piece together something cohesive from many different parts. That is a big part of what a good teacher is for (guiding development), but I never found a good guitar teacher locally, so piecing things together is where I have always been.

Hi,
You may also find that the Theory section contains (not always so) short discussions on some of the topics you mention.
