        Hello,
Im learning guitar because I love Slow blues. Especially in the key of e. Im really drawn to the Minor pentatonic/Blues scale in position 1 and 2. I’m new to this site as well and Im having a hard time finding any classes in this very basic learning scale. I’ve looked at the blues course but the licks are too advanced for me. Is there someplace with simpler 3-6 notes for beginners in the open position 1 and 2 in the scale of E?
        Thank you

Welcome Tom. Go to the Weekly Lessons page and have a look under the Lesson Category list. Look under the Key of E, I’m sure you’ll find something there. Enjoy!

                Hello Tom
My friend don’t get discouraged because there’s a lot on active melody to learn and I encourage to you take your time to explore everything here because honestly I believe if you keep it slow and simple you’ll find more then what you’re looking for.

If you take the Blues Course and you want some background first, maybe try the Beginner’s Course. That will give you some preparation.

My first impulse though is to ask to if you tried slowing the Blues Course phrases down. That might help.

Take it slowly, knowing a few things well is a good place to start. One thing I’d recommend is playing in time, tapping your foot and counting when you play them. The time you spend doing this now will pay off.

                Don D.

Thanks again i guess Im a little overwhelmed as there is so much knowledge here. i have tried slowing it down but I cant remember licks so I try to feel it and hit the notes. sometimes it sounds pretty good but then Iforget what I did! Thats why right now im sticking to simple 3-5 note licks in only two positions, then i write them down. I plan on getting the key of E down, then progressing up to G and A. Just taking it slow and focusing on one thing at a time. Also I’m playing only an acoustic

                      Tom M.
it’s good hear you’ve slowed down.
Tom I’m a old school player we didn’t have the internet and we had to learn from listing to songs I remember times I had to listen to a song a lot of times just to get one lick right and that can get very frustrating but the more I listen the easier it got because I was training my ear to hear and from memory I knew the key of the song I could hear the root note of a chord which made it a lot more simple to learn chords and to solo etc. Playing by ear is essential for every guitarist to learn because you’re storing what you hear into your memory, sometimes you may think you’ve forgotten a lick or chord but you haven’t it’s there and it will come out. I was listing to Brain’s latest lesson and he was talking about a certain way he was playing a pattern and he said I’m not sure where this came from but I’ve heard it before Yep for sure Brian’s old school.
Tom you can learn all of Brian’s lessons at your pace and since all you have is a acoustic Brian has lot of acoustic blues lesson’s you can focus on and there’s some that you can play on the electric and the acoustic but I encourage you to take your time to listen to every word and every note he’s teaching and remember the more you hear it your memory want forget it.if you get frustrated take a break and put on some good ole blues relax and focus on the notes you’re hearing.
You can do this My friend,
                      keep on picking.
