Fingerstyle Acoustic Delta Blues Guitar Lesson – EP037

Description

In this week’s guitar lesson, learn how to play a fingerstyle delta blues arrangement on acoustic guitar. This lesson is split into 2 videos, part 1 is free, however, part 2 is only available to premium members. There are some Robert Johnson inspired licks in this one. Intended for intermediate players, although if you’re new to fingerstyle playing or would like to learn more, this would be a good lesson to start with.

Like your recent Clapton piece, this is a perfect lesson for me. Here’s why: I don’t sing - so when I’m around people and they say “play a song”, it needs to be something that holds it’s own. Not the rhythm section from a classic tune but something that can showcase some good chops. That plus it’s way fun to learn!

Pretty soon Brian, we can get an arsenal of cool acoustic blues E shuffles from you under our belts and then have a blast arranging these all together into a continuously interesting complete hour long jam!! So cool!!

Agree totally with ataylOr. That double lesson just kept me going as a premium member. Wouldn’t risk missing stuff like that. Your homemade acoustic blues lessons are second to none. Appreciated! Thanks!

Great lesson Brian.  Even though I’ve been playing finger style for a long time, this one is going to be a challenge and a lot of fun to get it smooth.  Love the Delta blues rhythm!

    Great Brian..thanks
A nice and simple variation is to play A, Bb, B on 5th string immediately before going to the B7

    Brain,
Am I missing something?  Are there tabs for part 2 of the Delta Blues lesson?  It sure would make it easier for me to follow what you are explaining in part 2 with the tabs in front of me.
    Really like this lesson!

John, both part 1 and 2 are in the same tab document.  Just scroll up on this page and look to the left of the video and you’ll see the button to download the tab that contains both parts

    Brian,
    Thanks.  Dumb me!
When I went back and forth between the video and the .pdf file I was able to locate your instructions from the video, beginning at bar 14 of the tabs.  I guess if I had first written out what you were saying I would have found it without having to bother you.
Again, this lesson is very helpful for me.  Can’t wait to work on your arrangement with my new low-G tenor.

@cooptrace - it may be a browser issue perhaps.  Try downloading Google Chrome to see if that doesn’t fix the issue

    A great lesson Brian, but…
My thumb isn’t doing what it’s told!!
Just when I think I’ve controlled it, I realize that my stupid thumb has started to do it’s own thing.  I’ve threatened it with a hammer, but that just seems to make matters worse.
I’m s-l-o-w-l-y making some headway if I concentrate solely on the tab, but if I try to play from memory, the pesky thumb is off on it’s own again.
Is there a rehab centre for thumbs?  It’s normally well behaved in other areas, e.g. taking plums out of pies, that sort of thing.
In the meantime, I’ll work away with the tabs.
    Pete.

Great lesson thanks Brian. It really helps having the tab and you explaining at the same time. The only query is that the tab differs slighly after the 1st b7 bit. It doesnt seem to go to a7. Have followed what you said on here. Thanks again great piece and a style I always wanted to do. Explained v well Im glad I found your lessons

Fantastic piece, This is the sort of stuff that I never would have imagined that i could handle.
Brians tuition is so detailed but so easy to follow with his “bite size” breakdown method.
I have moved on tremendously with Brian and active melody.

Thank you Brian for all the tuition.

    keep up the great work!

Digging through the old catalog and finding these gems. Love fingerstyle blues. Any suggestions where I can find more pieces to add to my repertoire?

Learning this one but sure miss the Video Tab feature that I have come to rely on from previous lessons I worked on. Has become my primary way to learn. Are there any plans to go back to some older pieces in your catalog and add the Video Tab feature? Love this site so much. Cheers!
