Hi Brian,
I was wondering if you would do a video on Clapton and Robbie Robertson’s solos from their version of ‘Further On Up the Road’ from ‘The Last Waltz’.I love both of those solos.
I know that you cannot provide transcriptions of those for copyright reasons, but I would very much welcome a video on those two great solos.
Is anyone else interested in seeing Brian do a video of these?
Thanks,
drutgat.

There’s another video of this tune from 1961, Ronnie Hawkins and the Hawks, with Robbie Robertson on gittar, check it out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hMRG5kjzMcU The information says it’s Levon Helm singing. I actually prefer this one but would be happy to see a class based on either of them.

Hi Don,
I know that it’s a bit late (!) because I have not posted on AM in ages, but I just saw your message with a link to The Hawks’ version of ‘Further On Up The Road’, and wanted to thank you for posting it.I still would love to see Brian do a video, if not a lesson, on this track.

One thing that has helped me figure out a lot of these solos is using a smartphone app like “music speed changer”, which allows you to play any song you have on your phone and adjust the speed down as much as 33% of normal without affecting pitch (although you can also change the pitch up or down if you so choose). Personally I’ve been working on both Hideaway (Bluesbreakers version) and Crossroads. This app, along with tab will go a long way toward getting these right. Hope this helps!

Thanks for the advice. There’s another app, does the same thing, called Slowhand, Personal Video Tutor, recommended to me by…someone here. I’m sorry, I can’t remember your name right now.
I’m still figuring out how to use it. I haven’t yet.
If not a lesson on “Further On Up the Road” (for copyright reasons), how about one on the style of Robertson’s leads/solos in the Hawks (which he brought with him into the Band, so on the style of Robertson).

Hi Mark O, and Don Deering,
I just discovered Song Surgeon (and its companion app., Video Surgeon).Very good for slowing stuff down, with very few digital artefacts until one gets really slow (which, unfortunately, is what my ear needs to even begin to approximate hearing things).
Check youtube for videos for how these programs works, and for the features for each progam.
