Hi, The first lesson that started me on Brian’s courses was EP173. I was mainly into blues and liked the country feel to this one. Took me a while to get it anywhere near right and was my first attempt at recording myself.
Having revisited it and recording it again has brought back loads of memories. Still not perfect by a long way but getting there with practice. -

Getting there David? You seem to have arrived. To me you played this very nicely. I am sure if you were to play it like this at any open Mic you would be well recieved. Its a fine tune.

This brings back a lot of memories to me Dave. I was part of a band called The Miserable Old Gits and we used to jam together every week and recorded half a dozen albums over 3 or 4 years. When I first heard this song I had to write words to it. It sounded quite a sad melody so I called it Sad Song and the lyrics really were sad. You played that beautifully.

Glad a brought back some memories for you Phil. Love to hear your words to it.

This is one I love but haven’t learnt yet. You played it well! Cool to see the sg too, they have been on my mind lately for some reason.

Thanks JFL. A couple of tricky runs in the middle. Yep have not played the Gibson SG for a while. Been playing mainly my PRS Santana. Thought I would blow the cobwebs of a bit. Have another Gibson SG I must start to play again.

Nice rendition of Brian’s beautiful country ballad. There are a lot of subtleties in this piece and you did great job of capturing them. You dialed in a nice tone to fit this one.

February 27, 2021 at 2:02 pm #237721
Thanks Alan. When I first heard it I thought that is slow and easy and a good one to start with. Only when you start to learn it you find there are a few tricky runs with awkward finger combinations. Still trying to perfect it.
Like a lot of Brian’s stuff you find a couple of tricky bits when you start to play them.

That was a moving performance Dave. You captured the nuances and essence of this lesson as well as mastering the notes themselves. Great job 👍

Thanks Andre. Thought I would give the Gibson SG a bit of an airing. First its been out for about a year. Been using my PRS Santana and Epiphone Broadway most of the time.

Very smooth and melodic playing, Dave! I would have never considered country style playing either if it weren’t for Brian 🙂

Thanks Jola, Thought it was an easy one to start with and break away from blues. Was a bit wrong as it is harder to play than it looked. Took a lot of work and still trying to master it.

Nice improvisation.
Well played.Play guitar just like you live; don't get bogged down in theory, it's just a tool without feeling.

Hey Dave, that’s the best I’ve heard you playing to date. Really well done. And I’m super envious of your SG.

Thanks for the nice comments Sunjamr. Still a lot to learn and a lot more practice required. Must play the Gibson SG more. Keep buying newer shinier guitars and forget about the older ones. Have another Gibson SG in white must dig out again.

Dave, don’t be too hard on yourself, that was very well played. You stayed with the BT tempo throughout, giving plenty of space to breathe etc. A good weekend post……

Very nice playing, Dave. You’ve showed that hard work leads to beautiful results. The first country lesson I’ve tried to learn was 263. I think you’ll like that lesson too.
