John’s first solo album from the 70s that contains songs from Hank Williams Sr and many other great songwriters. This album is filled with blues, folk, country and a whole lot of John Kay
This is nothing like his recordings with Steppenwolf, he is such a great musician that doesn’t get the credit that he’s due -

Hey Keith,
Some cool songs I never heard before on that album. That version of Walkin Blues is great.
My wife went to see Steppin Wolf at what she thinks was the Wiskey a Go Go in Holywood way back in the day and BB King opened for them. Her recollection was JK was pretty wasted and could hardly perform. As a young Harley chopper rider back then, Born to be Wild was our anthem of freedom of the road. Thanks for sharing,

MikeThis album has long been one of my favorites
Gregg Allman was my overall favorite and probably my biggest influence; when he died, I though “Who is another great songwriter and musician of Gregg’s cailbre?” – John Kay was the first one that came to mind
He’s best known with Born To Be Wild and Magic Carpet Ride but he has wrote some great songs. Steppenwolf 7 is my favorite, some great songs with deeper meanings than a person first realizes.
