That’s a lot of talent in one room. The incredible thing is, Stevie can still hit those high notes to this day. Hendrix grabbed Winwood and Jack Cassidy, late one night in 1968, from a club in the New York music scene to jam for his recording of Voodoo Chile on his Electric Ladyland album. He apparently had always wanted Winwood to be a band member. Winwood’s keyboard improvs on that track and the interplay between Jimi and Stevie is amazing. Here’s a clip of Jimi’s sound engineer, Eddie Kramer recounting the story.
