I’m thinking of buying a used Gibson Les Paul.
Any suggestions on year or models? I’m not looking
for a vintage model just something that is considered
to be good. I definatley don’t want the newer ones that
have push-pull knobs and dip switches.
Any advice will be appreciated. -

i had an Epiphone Les Paul for many years; wonderful thick humbucker tone; the Epiphone LP model was half the price and half the weight of the Gibson LP, but it was still very heavy (probably a factor in the thick tone). And it was also ergonomically weird, the body kept tilting downward.
so the Epiphone LP will save some $, but either Epi or Gibson models will be heavy and uncomfortable to hold.
that’s just my experience.

What’s your price range? If you want a Gibson, I suggest that you get at least a Traditional Les Paul.
A Traditional Les Paul, in mint condition, just sold in my area (NorCal)for $1300. It sat at that price for a few days. The original asking was $1500. I almost bought it! 🙂
I’m in the market for a Standard myself. Right now, they’re going for around $2000 – $2200, which is still high in my opinion.

I can’t comment on what model years to look for since I don’t personally know. If the guitar appears to be in good condition for the price and I like it, I usually buy it.
Beware of fakes because they’re definitely out there!
